Chapter 340: Finally Thought About It

"Auntie, let’s play together next time." Chacha held Lola’s hand, her other hand clutching a lollipop. "Chacha likes pretty Auntie a lot."

Second nodded eagerly. "Second too!"

"Haha." Aileen chuckled as she bent over, resting her hands on her knees. "Let’s play more next time, okay? Next time, we’ll try out those fun games."

The twins’ smiles stretched from ear to ear as they nodded excitedly. Earlier, Lola and Aileen had joined them inside the playhouse, and the four of them had played together. To Lola’s surprise, Aileen was incredible with kids. She could even admit that Aileen was better than her.

Aileen straightened her back and looked at Lola. "I’ll see you at the show, alright? I’ll be busy until then, but I’ll be free once it’s over."

"Mhm." Lola hugged Aileen briefly, smiling as she pulled away. "Thank you."

"Those are just pieces of paper—fancy ones, though," Aileen quipped, making them both chuckle.

They idled for a moment before Lola helped the twins into the car. Once they were buckled in, Aileen took a step back and waved. Watching them go, a soft chuckle escaped her lips.

"Thank God... she’s fine," she whispered, her heart warm and light at the thought of Lola and those adorable children. "Mom wouldn’t believe it if I told her."

Even so, Aileen was relieved. Lola wasn’t just surviving—she was truly doing better than anyone could’ve expected. It wasn’t that Aileen had ever imagined Lola failing in life; she simply knew that living with those witches and that father of hers must’ve been hell.

Smacking her lips, Aileen shook her head and walked toward her car. But just as she reached for the door handle, movement caught her eye. Out of instinct, she turned her head and froze.

Someone stood a few steps away, having just exited his own car. He had stopped mid-step, staring at her as if he’d seen a ghost.

Aileen blinked once, studying the shocked look on Caullen’s face. Then, without hesitation, she offered a polite smile, slipped into her car, and drove off.

Caullen took a step forward as her car sped away.

"Ai—" he stopped, staring at the fading taillights. His eyes were wide as his shoulders sagged.

"It... is her," he muttered, trying to steady his breath. Once the shock dulled, a hollow laugh escaped him. "How... how dare she show her face to me again?"

Pain, resentment, and deep longing swirled in his eyes all at once until the passenger door opened and closed with a light thud.

"Caullen?"

His breath hitched as he slowly looked back, eyes falling on the woman standing right outside the door, looking back at him.

"Who’s that?" she asked, and he just forced a smile and shook his head.

"No one." His voice cracked, clearing his throat as he added, "I just thought I saw someone I know."

"Mommy, Auntie Aileen is fun!" Second mused, sitting between Lola and Chacha. The latter nodded excitedly. "I didn’t know you had a fun friend, Mommy."

Lola chuckled. "Uncle Silo and Haji are fun," she offered, but the twins only smiled.

Their smiles, however, said more than any words could. She didn’t blame them—Silo was dramatic to the point of exhaustion, and Haji... well, he was brutally honest and painfully boring.

"Auntie Aileen is one of Mommy’s best friends," Lola hummed. "We used to play together all day! She’s like a sister to me."
