Chapter 577 Blood Oath
She didn’t bother dressing. She crawled into the living room, grabbed her phone, and dialed Jimmy’s number.
She called several times, but no one answered.
A bad feeling prickled at her. She quickly called Jonah, Jimmy’s most trusted lieutenant.
Jonah answered.
The moment the call connected she blurted, “Jonah, are you with my father? Please–put my father on the phone.”
“Elsa…”
Jonah’s voice was thick with anger and helplessness. “He… he’s been jailed. He’s been sentenced to death; the execution’s in a month.”
“What?!” Elsa practically screamed. “Jonah, you’re joking, right? How could my father be jailed? That’s not funny–there’s no way he’d get the death penalty.”
She shook her head hard, unable to accept it.
Jimmy wielded considerable power in the underworld, and he was always crafty–there was no way he’d be quietly caught by the police. She wanted to believe Jonah was lying.
She would rather believe Jonah was lying.
“Elsa, calm down,” Jonah said with a heavy sigh. “I wish I were joking, but the truth is what it is. We can’t save Jimmy.”
From Jonah’s next words Elsa learned what had happened.
Jimmy had been imprisoned before for intentionally injuring someone. After he was released he’d become even more ruthless, and he’d grown more cautious in his operations.
But James was more ruthless still. He obtained the evidence of Jimmy’s murders and helped the police corner him.
If Jimmy had fled, even with the murder evidence in police hands they might not have been able to touch him. But now he was in custody–there was no escape.
“Bitch–this is all Lily’s fault!” Elsa spat.
Elsa knew why James had moved against Jimmy: he must have discovered the times Jimmy

If not for Lily, her biological father would have remained her greatest asset. Lily had already put her birth mother in prison; now she’d caused her father to be condemned to death. Elsa vowed she would never let Lily go unpunished.
“I’ll make that bitch suffer worse than death–I’ll avenge my father!” she cried.
Elsa didn’t truly love Jimmy. She’d mostly treated him as a useful tool. But she knew Jonah’s loyalty to Jimmy ran deep–they were brothers–in–arms. With Jimmy gone, Jonah would take over his power base.
People in their world lived by a code of loyalty; with Jonah’s temperament, he would avenge Jimmy.
If she pinned all the blame on Lily, Jonah would help her make Lily pay a terrible price.
“Don’t worry, Elsa. We brothers won’t let Jimmy die in vain,” Jonah promised. The steel in his voice grew colder. “James got Jimmy sentenced to death–we’ll make him pay, even if it kills us.”
“No need to kill James,” Elsa said, her tone chilling. “The cruelest revenge isn’t killing him outright. It’s making him watch his loved ones die while he’s helpless.”
“Jonah, you heard about Lily’s pregnancy, right?”
“Mm.”
When he acknowledged it, she continued, “Lily’s not just pregnant–she’s carrying twins.”
“If we can make Lily and her babies die in front of James, that will hurt him far more than killing him directly.”
Jonah’s hands were stained with blood; he knew well how to wound a man where it hurt most. He nodded in agreement. “Elsa, Jimmy is gone. You’re his only blood. From now on, my men and I swear to die for you.”
With Jonah’s vow, Elsa lifted her chin even higher.
Her face still bled from the wounds, and with her hard expression she looked fierce- intimidating and remote, almost regal.
She picked up the bloodstained clothes from the floor and slipped them on, then issued a cool command. “Jonah, bring a few trusted men over. Help me deal with a corpse. And as for Lily… the sooner she’s gone, the better.”
Of course she wouldn’t simply stab Lily the way she had killed Hudson.
