Lily felt that Elsa was the truly disgusting one.

More than four years ago, Elsa had been the one who abandoned John–she feared being tied down by him after his accident and disability, and without hesitation cut him off and went abroad.

Lily said nothing.

The person Elsa meant by “someone who mattered” was clearly Simon.
