Ronan and Cordelia's moral boundaries were worlds apart.
"But he's just a kid, Ronan! And he won't be protecting Callum anymore!" Cordelia muttered, utterly drained. She had nothing left to say to Ronan. Their values were so different, and now they were at a deadlock.
"He did protect him this time!"
"How can you live with yourself, knowing another child risked his life for yours? Would you be proud if the killer got to Callum? Ronan, how can you even deserve to walk this earth?" Cordelia's voice broke as she stood up and started packing. She had to leave, Eason's words echoing in her mind. Lying next to Ronan gave her no sense of security; his scheming made her feel powerless and terrified.
"Where are you going?" Ronan's eyes narrowed—he was always cold and composed with others, but Cordelia could throw him off balance. She gave a bitter smile; she still meant something to him. He wouldn't kill her over an unfounded accusation, she thought, shuddering at the memory of poor Jayson.
"I'm moving into the dorms. Staying with you gives me the chills. I miss Blake. I can't stop thinking about your dark side," she said, gathering her things.
Ronan stood up, snatching her suitcase from her hands. "I did all this for you, for Callum! I'd never rest easy knowing Samantha was still out there!"
"But you've crossed a line I can't ignore!" Cordelia looked up at him fiercely. "I've never seen someone so cunning and ruthless. You don't just eliminate people; you disintegrate them, leaving nothing but dust! Don't you fear damnation? You can tear others apart now, but one day, you could do the same to me!"
"What are you talking about!" Ronan's eyes blazed. "You said you'd join me in hell!"
He gripped her wrist tightly, the pressure turning her skin red.
"Am I supposed to just sit back and wait for my demise?" Ronan shot back, righteousness in his tone.
Cordelia was speechless. Everyone had their fate, their chances—what gave him the right to play judge?
She tired of the argument and asked him to let go, "Let's get a divorce."
"Do you take marriage as a joke?" Ronan scoffed, disbelief and anger mingling in his expression.
