Jade’s heart leapt at Irene’s words. Afraid she’d misheard, she blurted out, “Irene, did you say you know someone who can perform Golden Needle Channel Activation?”
Irene replied quickly, “Yes, that’s right. In fact, this doctor once saved my life. I collapsed on the street from a heart attack, and she brought me back. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be here today.”
With Caitlin’s medical skills, surely she could save Hannah too.
Jade’s relief was palpable. “That’s wonderful—truly wonderful! Irene, could I trouble you to help us contact her? As long as she can save my mother, we’ll pay whatever it takes.”
The Richards family could afford it.
Hannah’s passing would be a regret none of her children were willing to accept. No one wanted to let her go like this. She needed to live. To really live. Only by holding on could she wait for Freya to return.
In truth, the Richardses had long since stopped hoping that Carey was still alive. After the accident, they’d consulted all manner of spiritualists across Southeast Asia, but every reading was the same: Carey’s life or death remained uncertain, and Freya would rise again—from the ashes, like a phoenix.
So, over the years, most of their attention had shifted to Freya.
“She’s not in Neon Spire now, but in Silverhaven,” Irene continued. “Jade, don’t worry. I was actually planning to visit her soon to bring her a New Year’s gift. Once I’ve seen her, I’ll call you right away.”
Visiting Caitlin had been the first thing on Irene’s list after returning from the capital. She’d already had gifts prepared. She just hadn’t had the chance to go yet—when Jade’s call came through.
“Thank you, Irene. I’ll be waiting for your call,” Jade said, barely able to contain her hope.
“You don’t need to thank me. Your mother’s my dearest friend,” Irene replied warmly. “Don’t be so formal.”
After hanging up, Jade hurried back toward the hospital room.
Justin and Zachary Richards had already arrived. Only Theodore, Hugo, and Frederick were still on their way. Now, Hannah’s VIP hospital room was crowded with family—a full house, just as the saying goes.
“Warren!”
Justin looked urgently at Jade. “If Irene knows a doctor who can do this, what are we waiting for? Let’s bring her here right away!”
“Exactly—Mom’s condition can’t wait,” Zachary added, his anxiety plain.
“Don’t worry, Justin, Zachary,” Jade said quickly, trying to calm them. “Irene said the doctor’s in Silverhaven right now, and she’s going to visit her soon. All we can do is wait for Irene’s call.”
But Justin’s wife, Elaine, was never one for patience. She stood up at once. “Waiting for a call takes too long! And with Mom’s condition, every minute counts. Why don’t Justin and I go to Silverhaven ourselves and bring Irene and the doctor back?”
Elaine didn’t know if this mysterious doctor could really save Hannah, but at least it was hope—far better than sitting there in the dark.
“No,” Warren said firmly, shaking his head. “Mom’s critical. None of us—her sons or grandchildren—should leave her side. Irene and Mom are close friends. Let’s wait for Irene’s call.”
If the worst should happen, none of them could bear to be absent for their mother’s final moments. They had to be ready—to stay with her, to say goodbye.
