THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 256

“Freya, do you have any idea how much your grandmother has missed you all these years?”

Kelley and Hedwig walked over to Hannah, gently supporting her arm as they helped her down onto the couch, doing their best to calm her trembling hands. “Mom, you need to take a deep breath,” Kelley murmured, glancing at Caitlin. “Let’s not startle Dr. Kensington. Why don’t we all sit down and talk this through?”

“Yes, Mom,” Molly echoed softly, “let’s just sit and talk.”

“Dr. Kensington, please, have a seat as well.”

Only then did Hannah manage to compose herself a little, settling beside Caitlin on the couch, still clutching her hand.

Once the entire family was seated, Jade finally spoke up, her tone gentle yet measured. “Dr. Kensington, I’ll be honest. The resemblance is uncanny. Your features, your background, even the way you smile, remind us so much of our Freya.”

She hesitated, then continued, “Freya was only three months old when she disappeared. My sister and her husband were driving home from a memorial service, taking Freya with them, when the accident happened. It was horrific—the driver died at the scene, my brother-in-law was left in a coma and he’s still bedridden to this day. But my sister and Freya vanished without a trace. At the time, everyone insisted they must have been taken by wild animals in the mountains.”

“But we refused to believe it. We couldn’t accept that my sister and Freya just disappeared. A priest once told us our Freya was like a phoenix—destined to rise from the ashes. So, all these years, our family and the Gonzales family have never stopped searching for them.”

“When Freya smiled, she had the sweetest dimples on both cheeks. And she had a red birthmark on her arm, exactly like yours.”

“That’s why my mother is convinced you’re Freya.”

Jade turned to Caitlin, her voice steady but hopeful. “So, Dr. Kensington, would you be willing to take a DNA test with us?”

All eyes turned expectantly to Caitlin.

“Yes, of course,” Caitlin said, giving a small nod. “But—life is full of strange coincidences. Even though Freya’s story is so similar to mine, I can’t promise I’m her. Mrs. Richards, Lady Jade, I think you should prepare yourselves for any outcome.”

Hannah squeezed Caitlin’s hand, her gaze unwavering. “You are Freya. I know it in my heart. This time, I won’t be wrong.”

Nineteen long years.

Hannah had taken more than five hundred DNA tests over the years.

The technician pricked Caitlin and Hannah’s index fingers, collecting the necessary vials.

When they were done, Warren turned to Devon. “Devon, how soon can we expect the results?”

Devon answered respectfully, “Sir, the standard process takes a week, but if we expedite it, we can have results in three days.”

“Then do what we always do—rush it.”

“Yes, sir.”

Hannah’s impatience was palpable. “Can’t it be any faster? Isn’t there a way to get results in just a few hours?”

Devon looked at Hannah sympathetically. “Mrs. Richards, I understand how anxious you are. But DNA testing is a serious legal procedure. Once we have the initial results, they still need to be reviewed and verified. Even the smallest mistake would make us legally responsible.”
