THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 389

The uproar over the “real vs. fake back view photo” had already reached fever pitch.

But when Mr. Quinten released his statement, the commotion only intensified.

Holy crap! Even Mr. Quinten is posting videos now!

I knew it! That photo from last summer only blew up now because Mr. Quinten was searching for his little savior.

Victoria is seriously amazing—it really was her who helped Mr. Quinten.

N, hurry up and say something! She was so quick to respond earlier!

Honestly, N’s so-called response wasn’t much. She and Victoria are cousins, after all—of course their silhouettes would look similar. That’s only natural, right?

Exactly. She’s just taking advantage of looking like Victoria from behind so she could pretend to be her!

What a clever little scheme. Since Victoria’s never shown her face in any photos, it was way too easy for N to fake a “back view” shot. Good thing Victoria is beautiful and kind—and even happened to save Mr. Quinten. Now that he’s spoken up for her, that impostor’s about to get her comeuppance!

Yeah! Let’s see that faker get exposed!

This is hilarious—the impostor won’t even show her face now.

Come on, where’s your response?

She must be feeling guilty.

Meanwhile—

Caitlin hadn’t responded at all. She was already fast asleep, unaffected by all this drama. She’d never let trivial matters mess with her rest.

Ann, on the other hand, was still up reading the comments, the corners of her lips curled in smug satisfaction.

She’d overestimated Caitlin. She’d thought Caitlin would leap to defend herself, but instead, Caitlin had turned into a coward—hiding away, too scared to come out and face the music.

Typical. What else could you expect from someone like her? Always scheming to take what isn’t hers, but when things get tough, she just crawls back into her shell and trembles. Now she’s afraid? Where was that fear when she was pretending to be me?

Just wait. This is only the beginning. Caitlin would pay the price—she’d be dragged through the mud and thrown out of the social scene for good.

The next morning, Caitlin woke up groggy, grabbed her phone, and opened Twitter. She caught up on everything that had blown up overnight, then typed out a simple post:

N: I’ll be attending Victoria’s birthday party—right on time!

Monday’s legs might be short, but he could really move—sometimes sprinting ahead, then plopping down on the grass to wait for Caitlin, tilting his head in that irresistibly cute way.

Caitlin couldn’t help but laugh at the sight, snapping photos of Monday as she ran. With her attention focused on her adorable companion, she didn’t notice the figure heading straight toward her.

Wham!

She collided right into someone’s chest.

Strong arms closed protectively around her waist. “Careful,” came a deep, warm voice from above.

The man’s chest was cold and solid as marble, and a fresh, familiar scent filled her senses.

It smelled…good. And oddly familiar.

Caitlin looked up. Her gaze landed on a sharply defined jawline, then thin lips, a straight nose, and finally, a pair of strikingly deep, almond-shaped eyes. Sweat glistened at his temples from exertion, only adding to his magnetic presence.

He was the very image of those well-bred gentlemen from classic novels—polished, refined, impossibly handsome.

For a moment, both Caitlin and the man froze, time suspended between them.

Gordon was just as stunned. He could swear his heart had started racing again.
