THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 432

“Let’s just drop the whole apology thing,” Ann said, her voice warm and reasonable. She glanced at Tammie and continued, “Tammie, I know you’re just standing up for me, but honestly, I never cared much about what happened. Freya and I are sisters—real sisters. There’s no need to split hairs over every little thing. And really, between siblings, someone has to be willing to take a step back now and then.”

She paused, then went on, “Tammie, I know Freya isn’t the type to hold grudges. Why not use this dinner party as a chance to bury the hatchet? You could give her an easy way out. It’d be nice if you two could go back to how you were.”

“Freya adores C. If she knew you were willing to take her to meet him, she’d be over the moon.”

Tammie almost laughed out loud at that. Give Caitlin an easy way out? As if Caitlin deserved it. What a joke.

“Ann, that’s enough. From now on, you’re the only cousin I have. As far as I’m concerned, Freya and I are nothing to each other.” He would never forgive Caitlin. Even if she begged him for forgiveness, he wouldn’t acknowledge her as his sister ever again.

Ann narrowed her eyes, a flash of irony in her gaze. Excellent. Just perfect.

She’d grown up with Tammie and knew better than anyone how stubborn he could be. He never burned bridges lightly, but if he said this much, he must truly have given up on Caitlin.

Ann sighed again, about to say more, but Tammie cut her off. “Ann, my mind’s made up. Please, let’s just leave it.”

“All right,” Ann replied, still the picture of gentle kindness. “I’m just a bit worried. If it’s only the two of us going to the dinner to meet C, and my grandmother finds out, will she blame me for not bringing Freya along?”
