In Farrell’s view, this was something that needed to be settled, one way or another. Otherwise, his mother and grandmother would keep worrying about it.
Hesitation only leads to more trouble—that much he knew.
No sooner had Farrell spoken than Carla’s face lit up with joy. “Wonderful! It’s settled, then. I’ll head downstairs and get things ready. Be sure to wake up early tomorrow morning, alright?”
“I will,” Farrell replied, nodding.
Humming to herself, Carla made her way downstairs.
Mrs. Ryan was watching TV in the living room. When she saw her daughter-in-law in such high spirits, she couldn’t help but ask, “Something good happen? You look over the moon!”
Carla wasted no time in relaying the news.
At this, Mrs. Ryan immediately paused the TV and turned to Carla, disbelief clear in her eyes. “Really? Farrell actually agreed to visit the Gonzales family?”
“Of course he did,” Carla said, nodding enthusiastically. “He told me himself. Why would I make that up?”
Mrs. Ryan was quick to add, “Then I’m coming with you.”
Carla glanced at her. “Mom, maybe it’s better if just Farrell and I go. You and Keira have been close friends for years. If you show up, it might feel a little awkward.”
After a moment’s thought, Mrs. Ryan conceded, “You’re right. I’ll wait at home for your news tomorrow. I just hope Farrell finally comes to his senses.”
It wasn’t just Carla who was satisfied with Caitlin—Mrs. Ryan was too.
If the Ryan family could welcome such a wonderful granddaughter-in-law, she’d be able to rest easy, even if her days were numbered.
As a grandmother, Mrs. Ryan knew Farrell’s personality inside out. He had a head for business, sure, but he was also restless at heart. He needed someone strong at his side, someone who could keep him grounded and push him to greater heights.
Otherwise, he’d end up stuck in place.
And it couldn’t just be anyone. Caitlin was the perfect choice—lovely, capable, and brimming with business sense. Only someone like her could truly match Farrell and keep him in check.
So when Carla told her the news, Mrs. Ryan was genuinely happy. For any elder, nothing mattered more than seeing their children and grandchildren happy.
Before the night was over, Mrs. Ryan added another reminder. “Since Farrell’s agreed to go, you’d better prepare well tonight. There’s no harm in being extra courteous—we need to make a good impression on the Gonzales family.”
“Don’t worry, Mom, I know what to do,” Carla assured her.
Mrs. Ryan turned off the TV altogether. “No, I still don’t feel at ease. I’ll help you get everything ready.”
The two women spent the whole evening bustling around, finally settling on the gifts to bring to the Gonzales family.
The next morning, Carla was up at dawn, busy with preparations. At seven sharp, she went to wake Farrell.
