Jennifer nodded.
Because she refused to listen to advice, Celia had been taking her medication non-stop for days. Not only had her incontinence gotten worse, but she was also growing more lethargic by the day, sleeping almost constantly.
It was just past six in the evening.
A distinguished guest arrived at Palmer Manor.
It was Celia’s aunt by marriage—the Duchess of Valerium.
“Mrs. Lewis, what brings you here?” Jennifer’s surprise was evident as the butler ushered the Duchess into the foyer.
Mrs. Lewis smiled graciously. “I heard that Celia has been in Eldermere looking for Dr. Oracle. I thought I’d stop by and see how she’s doing. Where is she?”
Only then did Jennifer realize she hadn’t seen Celia all afternoon.
Celia had said she was going to take a nap at noon.
Now it was well past six.
Could she really still be asleep?
A nap that lasted six or seven hours—anyone could tell something wasn’t right.
And today was supposed to be her last day on the medication?
The thought struck Jennifer like a bolt of lightning. Could something have happened to Celia?
Mrs. Lewis, noticing the growing alarm on Jennifer’s face, frowned. “Jennifer, I asked you a question!”
