Mirabella paused for a moment, then shrugged casually, "Consider it your birthday gift."
Nick's brow furrowed, even though those three tokens held deep significance. He should be happy, but—
"My birthday's in October."
And right now, it's only May.
Nick's expression turned more and more exasperated.
Seriously, giving a birthday present during the crucial heir voting? That was just a lame excuse!
Mirabella stayed silent for a couple of seconds, then looked at him with a playful smirk, "Well, Nick, just think of it as an early present?"
This way, she could skip this year's birthday shopping.
Nick: "Really?"
Mirabella looked away, saying, "I'm gonna check on Chester upstairs."
She absentmindedly ran her fingers over the black box she was holding and shot a glance at Nellie.
Their eyes met for just a moment before Nellie stood up, "Chester's medicine should be ready by now. I'll fetch it."
Mirabella nodded slightly, giving a soft "mm."
In no time, the two of them headed upstairs.
Nick stayed put, watching them vanish up the stairs, a weird feeling settling in his chest.
Why did it feel like Nellie and his sister were already familiar with each other? Nick squinted in suspicion.
*Mirabella and Nellie reached the top of the stairs, seemingly in sync, and instead of heading to Jim's room, they made their way to the glasshouse on the second-floor balcony.
