The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella) novel Chapter 1897

Mirabella cast a sideways glance at James. She knew well that the archaeological team had ventured into the Misty Forest last year, the very place the local mayor called the Forbidden Woods. Back then, Trevor had been injured, and the pollen on his clothes could only be found in the depths of that forest.

The mention of a time-travel machine made Mirabella's eyes darken slightly as she quickly mulled over a few thoughts. She turned to James and asked, "Hey, do you know how long the Archaeological Society has been around?"

James pondered her sudden question. "I think it's been around for over a century? I'm not exactly sure of the specific date, but Maverick became the president about sixteen years ago."

Sixteen years ago? King had set up the first base only about twenty years back. Mirabella nodded, not connecting any more dots with the timeline just yet.

What she knew for sure was that King's two seemingly unrelated identities actually had some common threads. The first base was home to the world's most cutting-edge research, while the Archaeological Society seemed focused on exploring the mysteries that science couldn’t quite explain. Like the buried floating palace. Or, as James mentioned, the time-travel device. Both appeared to have deep ties with the Stevenson family.

James's voice broke through Mirabella's thoughts again. "So, the time-travel device isn't just a myth?"

He had his suspicions about the Stevenson family's legendary status, most famous for miraculous healing techniques. If it was just about medicine, they wouldn't have stayed hidden in these mountains for so long. Plus, some seemingly ordinary things in this village were unmatched outside.

Mirabella gathered her thoughts and replied, "No, it's definitely more than just a myth."

James watched her, waiting for more, while in the kitchen, the mayor had finished preparing a simple meal. Seeing Mirabella and James deep in conversation, he refrained from calling them to the table.

Mirabella smiled softly, her voice gentle, "Those who glimpse the truth are often the ones who've danced with death."
