Before Maricela finished, Harlan pushed forward. “I’m involved too! I told Lucy to take her to the conference room because I cut the wires there. “Cedrick…” Maricela gazed at Cedrick with teary eyes. “I’m sorry I dragged you into this. Don’t protect us or take the blame. You’re the most important one here. The company needs you. And…” She glanced at Lucille, “…Lucille needs you too. Don’t be rash…”

Harlan and David shot even more venomous glares at Lucille. David spoke in anguish, “See that, Lucille? Just look at Maricela ! Even now she’s still thinking about you! If you had half her kindness and generosity, none of this would’ve happened!”

Lucille handed her phone to the officers. “Officers, should I submit the evidence from my phone? I’ve said all I need to say. Like they said, I won’t drop the charges. If there’s nothing else, may I leave? I’ll cooperate anytime if you need me later.‘

She heard someone call out behind her and felt arms supporting her. Faintly, she recognized the voice as the female officer from earlier.

But she couldn’t even say she was fine before collapsing into the officer’s arms, unconscious. Lucille felt utterly exhausted, so tired that she slept for a very, very long time.

Waking up, she was groggy. The surroundings felt vaguely familiar. Looking closer, she realized she wasn’t at her grandmother’s house but back in her home with Cedrick, lying in their bedroom.

‘Ahem…” Her throat felt scratchy. She coughed.
