“Okay.”

Lucille held up two fingers: exactly two words.

Cedrick actually laughed. He immediately transferred a million via phone. “Remember, one- word answers from now on count as breach of contract!”

Cedrick’s gaze sharpened.

His expression shifted like a spilled palette, truly colorful.

“Let’s go!”

He strode ahead, briefcase in hand.

Lucille followed him into the elevator down to the garage where his car waited.

As always, they entered separately. Settling into the passenger seat, Lucille noticed something new–a pendant.

A cartoon “safe journey” charm now dangled from the rearview mirror.

Cedrick cleared his throat. “Ahem. Maricela put that there. Said it’d bless my travels. Meant well.”

The car went straight to the law firm.

Lucille spoke. “I know why you’re so confident. Clause three can’t bind you. You’ve got ten thousand ways to move assets.”

Lucille signed her name on the contract.

Cedrick held his pen, “Am I really that awful in your eyes?”

Lucille smiled faintly, “Probably worse.”

Cedrick then pressed down hard while signing his name, each stroke piercing through the paper. “Don’t worry, I won’t deceive you.”

True enough, he’d never deceived her–he was just a scumbag through and through.

His reassurance meant nothing, she simply didn’t care anymore.

After signing and notarizing, they left the law firm.

“I’ll take you to the holistic health clinic,”

he offered.

Lucille didn’t refuse.

He accompanied her all the way to the clinic’s waiting room. “Need a ride after rehab?”

She shook her head. “No, I’m meeting Emma later.”

“Alright.

I’ll head out first.”

Cedrick’s phone rang as he walked out, leaving his briefcase beside Lucille’s seat.

Seeing him exit, Lucille grabbed the case and hurried after him.

The call was from his lawyer. “Cedrick, are you sure you’re not just playing games wife? I’m not part of your play, am I?”

Cedrick replied while walking.

“You realize this contract, though almost farcical, might cause future complications?” The lawyer’s tone implied future deniability. “Don’t blame me later.”

Cedrick chuckled. “Why would I? I signed it willingly.”

“But your assets could face disputes.”

“They won’t.”
