You won’t let me kiss you?Cedrick rasped, pressing her down again.

Lucille felt nauscous. Shoving him away, she flung open the door and stumbled toward a roadside trash can, swaying unsteadily, beyond caring about grace.

Reaching the bin, she vomited violently.

After emptying her stomach, she leaned against a nearby tree trunk, the world spinning. The alcohol’s delayed punch was brutal; without the tree’s support, she’d have collapsed.

Cedrick stormed over, dark clouds gathering on his facea prelude to fury. He seized her shoulders. What the hell is wrong with you?

Lucille barely registered his words. Leaning against the tree, she gazed at him through bleary

eyes.

Is it that bad? I’m your husband! You vomit because I kissed you?His jaw tightened, rage boiling in his eyes.

All Lucille knew was the world spinning and a maddening buzz in her earswhat it meant, she couldn’t grasp. She found it irritating.

She waved a hand, trying to swat the noise away. Her palm connected sharply with Cedrick’s cheek.

He froze for a split second, then scooped her up and dumped her back into the car.

As the engine roared to life, the radio automatically switched on. Some station was playing Romeo and Juliet’s Tragic Finale.

Lucille listened, mesmerized.

This was one of the classic pieces she’d danced to in collegemuscle memory, instinct etched into her genes.

Drunk and unfocused, she began humming along. Soon, her hands started tracing the familiar movements.

Cedrick shot her a glance but stayed silent. He just pressed the accelerator harder.

The song ended. A host’s voice filled the car. Lucille frowned. The music? Play it again! Music!

But the station had moved on

Lucille wouldn’t relent, demanding the music over and over.

Out of options, Cedrick found the song on his phone and played it for her over Bluetooth.

Only then did the restless girl settle down, continuing to hum along and sway her hands.

Cedrick set the song on repeat, driving all the way home like this.

Lucille was clearly too drunk to walk, so Cedrick had to carry her inside.

The moment he lifted her down, she flung herself over his shoulder. He hadn’t expected this sudden move and nearly dropped her. Thankfully, he caught her and held her tight.

Lucille frowned. No! This lift is terrible! You’ve got no strength! Did you skip dinner?

Cedrick:

Was she practicing dance now?

Treating him as her partner?

Lucille, we’re home. Let’s go inside,he said.

Going back after practicing like this? Impossible! Again!

Where’s the music?

Why did it stop?

Lucille, class is over!Cedrick played along with her nonsense, carrying her into the elevator.

We keep practicing after class!
