Chapter 134
But she just woke up, felt exhausted, just said casually, “Okay.”
Cedrick didn’t hang up, seemed unsure, like he had more to say.
Lucille cut in to end the call, “Well…“,
“Lucille?”
He called her again.
Lucille waited for him to speak.
“Uh… I drank too much last night, stayed at a hotel,”
Lucille’s mind cleared up then. So he didn’t come home last night, probably wouldn’t tonight either, that’s why he called. After all, no business trip, two nights away in a row wasn’t like
him.
“Oh.”
She just replied flatly.
No energy, really no energy to deal with him, “I’ll hang up now, I’m hungry.”
Slept almost a full day, truly hungry, and her stomach felt off from last night’s drinking.
Cedrick’s voice softened on the other end.
“I’ll bring you treats when I come home. What would you like?”
“Whatever.”
Coming home?
What’s the point of bringing treats when she won’t even be there!
The caregiver waited nearby for Lucille to finish her call, then helped her freshen up, use the bathroom, and asked what she wanted to eat.

Her stomach craved hot soup for warmth, but she checked on Mylee first. Hearing Mylee was fine, she decided to tend to her own needs. She told the caregiver, “I’ll order takeout. Please help me get it later.”
She picked four dishes from a restaurant famous for its slow–cooked soup and waited for delivery.
While waiting, she habitually scrolled through Instagram. Emma had posted side–by–side photos: their high–school group picture and yesterday’s dinner shot, captioned “Us nine years ago vs. now.”
Lucille chuckled. Back then, she’d been thin as a bean sprout–awkward and baby–faced.
The post was new with no comments yet. She liked it and kept scrolling until Harlan’s post appeared.
Harlan wrote: “Time changes nothing. Still the same. Cheers to big bro and sis–in–law!”
Followed by a video. When she tapped it, a song played: “I’ll love you till the seas run dry…”
Lucille closed it.
So Harlan had posted this Instagram confession for those two. Amusing.
Too drunk last night, dead asleep all day–she’d missed the evening drama. Now it flooded back: Cedrick singing “Love Choice” with Maricela during her and Mylee’s fall.
Not that it shocked her.
Given how close he and Maricela were, duetting on a love song meant nothing anymore.
She quietly blocked Harlan. Out of sight, out of mind.
After a pause, she blocked David and his whole crew too. Five years as contacts, zero interaction except to annoy her.
Her finger hovered over Cedrick’s name. She blocked him in one swipe.
From last night till now–getting hurt, self–rescue, hospital admission, treatment…
All handled solo.
Everyone used to say she’d crumble without Cedrick. Yet see? Through it all, she never once needed him. She got herself properly hospitalized.
