Chapter 201
Maricela’s hair now felt warm and fluffy, cascading over her shoulders in the chilly AC breeze. She felt utterly com- fortable.
So… was this the comfort Lucille had enjoyed?
Sharp pangs of jealousy hit her. She shed her robe, keeping only the spaghetti–strap nightgown–one strap already slipped off her shoulder–and followed him upstairs.
She stopped outside the second–floor bathroom door.
The sound of running water echoed inside. Cedrick was showering.
Hotel bathrooms had glass doors. Though patterned and blurry, she could make out his silhouette. He stood with his back to her.
Maricela hesitated, then pushed the door open forcefully.
“Cedrick-” Her voice was a sultry purr as she moved to embrace him. But Cedrick inside had already put on his robe. “Ced-”
Her burning desire froze instantly.
“Cedrick-” No, she couldn’t back down now. “Cedrick… are you… done showering? Let me help.”
“Already done.” Cedrick walked straight past her.
Maricela watched his retreating back, then suddenly rushed forward, wrapping her arms around him from behind. “Cedrick-”
Cedrick didn’t respond.
“Cedrick, I don’t care about titles. I just want to be with you.”
Her hand slid inside his robe.
Cedrick grabbed her wrist firmly. “Maricela, you mean a lot to me. But this isn’t fair to you.”
“Cedrick, I don’t mind-”
“But I do!”
“Cedrick-” Maricela clung tighter. “I’m scared. I don’t want to sleep alone.”
“Go to sleep,” he said flatly. “I’ll stay with you. Like last time.”

Meanwhile, Lucille’s flight was surprisingly pleasant.

She’d seen the most stunning sunset at the airport. After takeoff, she alternated between napping, snacking, and watching two movies. Perhaps her mood was lighter–the twelve hours passed quickly.
She even caught the sunrise from her window seat, the brilliant light forcing her to squint.
Beautiful.
As dawn brightened the sky, the plane began its descent.
The cabin announcement repeated landing instructions in Chinese, Porilinese, and French.
“Almost there, Lucille. Doing okay?” Aydan showed her a photo on his phone–one he’d just taken of her watching the sunrise.
Sunlight bathed her face, making her glow.
“Stunning,” he murmured.
Aydan said, “Can I post this one together when I post on Instagram?”
Lucille thought there was nothing wrong with it, the photo
was really well taken, “Sure, of course you can.”
“I’ll send it to you after we land.”
Aydan showed her, he had taken several photos of her and the sunrise.
Lucille thought she could also post a series of photos: New Journey.
The plane landed, ready to disembark.
Lucille only brought a backpack on the plane, but some group members brought instruments and other gear; she didn’t want others to take care of her because of her leg, she hoped to help in every way, so she helped carry things, avoid- ing the expensive instruments and handling luggage instead.
Aydan’s partner Linda Padilla felt awkward asking Lucille for help; Aydan chuckled, “Lucille was like this in the school dance group, always looking out for us; just go, don’t be polite, or we’ll block the aisle.”
