Chapter 236
“Of course that angers me!”
Aydan’s voice cracked. “But what burns me is that trash let outsiders mock Lucille’s foot injury!
Why was she injured?
For him!
To save him!
If not for rescuing him, Lucille could’ve shone on every tour stage!
Yet he joined that vile woman mocking her!
If Lucille hadn’t stopped me today-”
I’ll break his leg and give it back to Lucille!”
“Aydan!
Don’t be rash!”
Linda urged quickly.
“Rash?
I hate myself for not being rash enough!
Why am I so rational?
If only I’d acted rashly back then… …

Aydan trailed off, gulping down the liquid in his glass. His voice grew thick. “I thought… … I thought she’d be happy. She saved his life… … How could he not make her happy……”
Lucille felt an indescribable bitterness welling up inside.
Everyone believed Cedrick could give her happiness–everyone except Cedrick himself and those around him who shared his mindset.
Love couldn’t be forced.
Five years had taught her that.
She could even accept Cedrick not loving her. After all, when she’d saved him back then, she hadn’t thought twice- just acted on pure instinct.

Chapter 236
In that critical moment, who could possibly scheme?
How could Cedrick believe she’d saved him just to blackmail him into marriage?
The thought of him suspecting her motives still stung.
If he didn’t love her, he should’ve said so.
Had he told her five years ago, she’d have walked away after recovering, asking for nothing.

Had he told her any day during these five years, she’d have respected his honesty, parted amicably, and wished him well–after all, they’d both tried.
But now? Only this wretchedness remained…
Aydan fell into prolonged silence while Linda kept talking, urging him to reconsider.
Lucille only felt a cold wetness on her face. She touched her cheek–her palm came away wet.
She wiped it fiercely dry. Without interrupting them, she turned and left.
After struggling to compose himself, Aydan’s emotions still surged uncontrollably. “You don’t understand. Five years ago, at her wedding… I saw her smiling happily from afar. That moment when that Wen guy slid the ring onto her fin- ger-” His voice cracked. “I nearly charged at them! To stop it! To grab her and run-”
Linda stared, stunned.
She knew Aydan held special feelings for Lucille, but not how deep or how early they’d begun–nor this inner tur- moil.
“I regret it every day,” Aydan choked out. “Knowing what I know now, I should’ve dragged her off that altar-”
Linda hesitated but couldn’t hold back. “But back then, Lucille didn’t even know you existed. They’d have thrown you out like a madman.”
Aydan whipped around, glaring.
Linda’s eyes pleaded: Sorry, don’t hit me–just stating facts.
Aydan deflated. “True. Too cowardly to even approach… too cowardly to offer congratulations…”
