“Can’t you say anything else?!” Maricela was nearly insane with fury.

“Fine!” Lucille’s smile sharpened. “Let’s say something else. Maricela, tread carefully. Every penny you spent on this trip? I might just demand it all back.”

Maricela’s pupils dilated. “You… have no shame!”

“Spending another woman’s husband’s money–who exactly lacks shame?” Lucille’s laugh was cold. “Remember, I have a marriage certificate. Cedrick’s money is our shared property!”

“Then spend your whole life clinging to that certificate!” Maricela’s voice tore from her throat.

“No problem at all.”

Lucille smiled. “You keep being his sweetheart. I’ve got my marriage certificate, and that’s just fine.”

With that, Lucille walked past her, heading back toward the theater.

“Get back here!”

Maricela reached out to grab her.

Their piece was the finale. The music from “Giselle” still echoed in her ears, lingering long after it had stopped. Judging by the audience’s reaction, they’d loved the dance. Thunderous applause had erupted multiple times. Now, as Aydan and Linda came out for their bows, recreating a few iconic solo and duet movements from “Giselle,” the the- ater erupted in applause once more.

The curtain call should have ended there. Audience members were already coming forward with flowers. But the mu- sic didn’t stop. Suddenly, new images appeared on the LCD screens flanking the stage.
