Chapter 273
Edwin thought for a moment. Robert probably wanted to protect Lucille from seeing all this ugliness, and at the same time, he was sending a message: give up on that Maynard guy completely.
But anyway, with Robert around, Lucille and the old lady were under tight protection, so nothing would go wrong.
Just as Robert put his phone away, his grandma on the hospital bed suddenly stirred.
Her eyelids fluttered, and she let out a weak, hoarse sound, “Lucille…”
Lucille and Robert stood up at the same time, flanking the old lady on either side of the bed.
“Grandma, Lucille is here. Lucille is back…” Lucille held her grandma’s hand, her voice soft as she fought back a sob.
Grandma was still a bit delirious, but upon hearing Lucille’s voice, tears immediately welled up in the corners of her eyes. She murmured, “Lucille, stay away. Grandma is dirty… Lucille, don’t come over…”
Lucille’s heart instantly ached as if pricked by needles. She leaned down, pressing her cheek against her grandma’s. “Grandma, don’t talk nonsense. You’re not dirty. We’re at the hospital now. Everything’s okay. You won’t be bullied anymore…”
“Grandma, look, you’re on an IV, right?
Everything is clean everywhere. Don’t be scared, Grandma…” Lucille kissed her grandma’s cheek, just like when she was a child, comforting her grandmother who had never been truly cherished.
Grandma must have realized she was safe, and she couldn’t hold back her emotions. The two of them, grandmother and granddaughter, held each other and cried their hearts out.
Robert waited until they had cried for a good while before saying, “Alright, alright, it’s okay now. Let’s not cry anymore!”
He gently hugged both his grandma and Lucille.
“Is that… Cedrick?”
Grandma asked, murmuring as she looked in his direction.
“Grandma?”
Lucille met her grandma’s gaze. “Grandma, can you see?”
“Is it Cedrick?”
Grandma asked again, squinting.
“Call the doctor.”
