She hailed a taxi and headed straight to the elderly woman’s house.

If there was one person in this world who truly loved her, it was her grandmother.

She had been a teacher. After retiring, she moved back to her old house in the village, growing flowers, fruits, and vegetables.

She was the only person Lucille truly wanted to care for and repay.

But no matter how many times Lucille invited her to the city or offered to buy her a small place, she always refused. She couldn’t bear to leave her flowers.

Lucille knew it was just an excuse. She didn’t want to be a burden. She even sent fruits and vegetables by delivery instead of visiting.

But what Lucille wanted most was for her grandmother to rely on her.

When she was young. Lucille loved to dance. Her parents didn’t support it as lessons cost extra money. But her grandmother insisted on sending her to dance class and paid for it herself.

From then on, she not only covered Lucille’s dance expenses but also her high school costs.

Lucille had been boarding at school since high school. Her parents didn’t give her a single penny. In their eyes, educating a girl was useless, as they would marry into another family someday. Wasting money on them was meaningless.

Besides, she was a pretty dancer. Her mother couldn’t wait for her to turn eighteen so she could marry into a rich family and bring home gift money for her brother.

When she got into university, her parents wanted her to go to a local tuitionfree teacherscollege so she could become a dance teacher, earn money, and help the family.

Her father said bluntly, We don’t have money for you to go to some faraway school. Either become a teacher or don’t go at all!

It wasn’t that Lucille looked down on teaching, but she had been accepted to the top dance academy in the country.

Once again, it was her grandmother who supported her choice and helped her follow her dream.

When Lucille injured her leg, her parents just sighed in frustration, saying, How will a cripple ever find a rich husband? Then they started calculating how much compensation they could get from Cedrick.

And once again, it was her grandmother who stayed by her bedside day and night.

Memories flashed through her mind. She thought of how her parents were overjoyed when Cedrick proposed.

Their crippled daughter had landed a wealthy husband. They were too busy planning how much to ask for to think about anything else.

Only her grandmother held her hand and said, Luci, no matter what happens, remember to love yourself the most.

Maybe she had known that it wasn’t a good match.

But she couldn’t stop Lucille.

Lucille looked out the window, her eyes burning with tears. Grandma, I’m sorry. I didn’t love myself enough, she muttered to herself.

It was completely dark when the taxi reached her grandmother’s house. The lights were on inside, casting a warm glow that felt comforting.

Tears welled in her eyes.

She got out, walked through the yard, and knocked.

Who is it?she called from inside.

When the door opened and the elderly woman saw Lucille, her face lit up with joy. Luci! What are you doing here?

Lucille’s eyes stung again. Afraid of crying and worrying her, she hugged her tightly and whispered, Grandma, I got the grapes you sentI missed you.

Silly girlShe smiled warmly, then looked behind Lucille. You came alone?

Yes. Cedrick’s busy. I can come by myself.Lucille held her hand and walked inside. Grandma, I’m hungry. Do you have anything to eat?
