Chapter 322
“When do you think would be a good time to do the paperwork?”
Lucille stood up. “If we can do it now, let’s get it over with quickly. No need for dragging things
out.”
Cedrick looked around the conference room.
Over the years, he had held countless meetings in this conference room, but not a single one had ever felt as depressing and bleak as today.
The other shareholders got up and left one by one.
David was the last to leave. He stood in front of them for a moment, sighed, patted Cedrick’s shoulder, and left.
Lucille looked at him, waiting for him to say if they were still going to do the paperwork today.
Cedrick gazed at her serious face and gave a wry smile. “You really don’t want to see me that much?
Can’t you even give me one more day to see you?”
“That’s right, I don’t.”
Lucille had no intention of sparing his feelings. If they were getting a divorce, it should be a clean break, with no lingering ties.
Cedrick sighed, “Even if you don’t want to, it’s too late now.
Another day, then. I’ll contact you.”
Without another word, Lucille turned and walked away.
Cedrick watched her resolute figure walk away and smiled wryly again.
This was no longer the Lucille he knew.
The shy, gentle Lucille, who always smiled at him like a sunflower turning to the sun, seemed to have vanished overnight into the winds of time. Now, the Lucille before him was as hard as a rock–an unpolished one, full of sharp edges, ready to prick him if he wasn’t careful.

Chapter 322
She reached the elevators and pressed the button, and he followed close behind

When the elevator doors opened, she saw him and frowned. “Why are you following me?”
“This is my company’s elevator. I can ride it too, can’t 1?”
He smiled as he said it, though even he thought the line sounded cheesy.
She clearly didn’t like that. She stepped right out of the elevator. “Fine, you take it. I’ll wait for the
next one.”
“Lucille!”
Exasperated, he grabbed her by the shoulders and pushed her back into the elevator. “I just wanted to walk you out.”
“Don’t bother.”
She pressed the close–door button.
He knew that would be her response and quickly held the doors. “Then unblock my number. It’ll be easier for me to send you the files.”
Lucille unblocked him right there in front of him. “Happy now?
Don’t bother me for no reason.‘

There was nothing he could do; getting any closer would just make her dislike him more. He could only watch as she closed the doors, and then as the floor numbers went down.
Inside the elevator, Lucille kept a hand pressed to her heart.
Over the past five years, so many thorns had gathered there, one by one. It was a constant, dull ache, and every so often, a sharp one would pierce her, making her heart bleed.
She thought it would take a very, very long time to pull out those thorns one by one.
But that wasn’t necessary.
She was certain that now, today, when she touched the place that had once ached so terribly, she felt no pain at all.
After all, pain only exists when you love someone.
Feeling no pain meant there was no love left.
