The experienced herbal doctor practiced at a Herbalist’s Shop near the avenue entrance. where a long queue had already formed.
Seeing the line, Aydan worried Lucille’s foot couldn’t withstand standing that long. He said, “I’ll queue up. I’ll call you when it’s your turn. Wait in the car.”
Lucille felt awkward. “That won’t do?
I should
go down myself.”
“No need! I’ve got this!”
Aydan parked by the roadside and joined the queue.
Alone in the car, Lucille finally took out her phone and turned it back on.
Over ten missed calls blinked on the screen.
Eight calls were from Cedrick, two from that Mylee.
Cedrick had texted her: Where are you?
Wasn’t he supposed to be on a business trip? Didn’t he take Maricela with him? Still had time to look for her?
She called Mylee back.
The moment the call connected, Mylee rushed to report: Mr. Cedrick’s looking for you. I couldn’t tell him where you went.
“Alright, got it. Thanks, Mylee.” She hung up only for another call to ring immediately.
Cedrick.
“Where are you? Why ignore my calls and turn off your phone?” He sounded furious through the receiver.
“Something urgent?”

“I hear car horns. You’re not home?” Suspicion laced his voice.
“Correct.” She didn’t deny it. “Getting some air. What do you
want?”
“Never mind now. That’s all!” He hung up.
Lucille pocketed her phone and scanned the line. Aydan was talking to a nurse–uniformed girl, phone in hand–probably checking their appointment number.
The girl nodded, and Aydan walked back.
“It follows online appointment order.” Aydan opened the car door. “Our turn’s next.”
Lucille hurried out of the car.
“Asked some patients in line. This doctor handles all cases but specializes in orthopedics.” Aydan told her.
She nodded, still holding little hope.
Walking slowly, she reached the avenue entrance just as an argument erupted.
“No one’s here now! Why can’t I go in?” A woman shouted.
The nurse explained, “Someone’s coming. The family member went to fetch the patient. Since you don’t have an appointment, I’ll ask the doctor about an extra slot.”
“Add it now! I want this slot!”
“This slot’s taken. Look at all these people with appointments waiting.”
“I’ll pay double! Ten times! Twenty! How much per slot? Ten thousand! I’ll pay ten thousand for this slot today!”
Others in line protested: “Think money makes you special?”
“Cutting in line so brazenly! Shameless!”
“Rich enough? Book the entire clinic for yourself!”
“Yeah! Why not book the whole Capital City!”
“You… you all…” The woman turned around, visibly provoked.
Lucille recognized her instantly–Maricela, just as the voice suggested.

Chapter 44
Maricela’s face flushed crimson. Stomping toward the avenue’s other end, she yelled. “Cedrick! Come here! We’re booking every slot in this clinic today!”
The person walking down the avenue was none other than Cedrick.
“What’s wrong?”
Cedrick rushed to Maricela’s side, genuine concern filling his eyes as he completely ignored everyone else.
Maricela pouted, whining to him, “Cedrick, these people are bullying us out–of–towners!
