Chapter 75

So much had happened today. Even though she had deliberately walked into the trap, she had escaped a fire and was exhausted both physically and mentally, so she fell asleep almost as soon as her head hit the pillow. She didn’t even know when Cedrick came back, and if he hadn’t woken her in the morning, she wouldn’t have known he had returned.
He pulled open the curtains. Sunlight streamed in, the bright light stinging her eyes so she couldn’t open
them.
Yet he sat by the bed, calling her to wake up in his signature gentle voice, “Lazybones, not up yet?
I even bought you bagels back.”
Lucille was a bit confused.
What was going on? Was everything that happened yesterday just a dream?
But Cedrick’s next words convinced her it wasn’t a dream.
“Come on, let me see if your allergy’s better?”
He reached out to turn her face.
She turned away, got out of bed, and ignored him.
While washing up in the bathroom, brushing her teeth, she thought about what to do today.
The days waiting for her visa suddenly seemed leisurely. She planned to visit her grandma. She was leaving soon, and grandma would surely miss her.
Today was day 15 of the countdown to leaving Cedrick.
After washing up, she came out to find Cedrick already sitting at the dining table.
She had really woken up late today. Logically, he should have been at the office, but he was still home having breakfast?
A strange sight in five years; he’d never had breakfast this late at home.

Since Cedrick was at the table, she decided not to cat at home.
She’d go downstairs for a coffee, then take a taxi to grandma’s to cat Savory Pork Noodle Bowl. Thinking of how grandma made it, her stomach growled.
She carried a big bag out, with all her visa documents inside. It was safer to keep these important things at grandma’s, and she’d go directly from there later.
“Where are you going?
Not even breakfast?”
Cedrick asked her from the dining table.
“None of your business.”
She said, heading for the door.
“Breakfast has what you like.”
He emphasized deliberately.
“Madam.”
Mylee was inexplicably cheerful today. “Mr. Cedrick went out early to buy bagels, saying you like them. You like bagels and didn’t even tell me? I can make them too. Mr. Cedrick really knows you.”
Lucille suddenly understood where Mylee’s cheer came from–was she happy for her?
Cedrick had finally shown a little care for Lucille.
Who knew what madness his care today stemmed from?
“Aren’t you going to the office?”
What she really wanted to ask was: Aren’t you going to comfort your little Maricela?
Cedrick spread his hands. “After all these years running the company, even an old workhorse deserves a break. I’m taking leave starting today.”
Lucille frowned.
What would he do on leave?
