Halsey nodded. “Okay.”
Zada turned and walked out.

Sierra, standing by the door, immediately slipped into the corner, watching Zada leave her line of sight.
She crept back to the doorway and looked inside at Halsey.
Halsey’s head was bowed, her expression heavy. She was no longer the sparkling, pampered heiress everyone adored.
Sierra felt a thrill of satisfaction.
In truth, she had always been jealous of Halsey. Halsey had everything she wanted–beauty, attention, admiration.
Sierra couldn’t accept it. As she hid in the shadows, watching Halsey, her mind had already twisted into something dark and sick. Sierra wanted to take Halsey down, make her life miserable, and watch her suffer.
She also wanted Halsey’s man. She wanted to be Mrs. Lane.
And now, the moment had come.
Zada had gone back to make soup for Halsey. If Sierra could slip something into that soup, she could kill Halsey.
And she had Zada, the perfect unwitting accomplice. Nobody would know it was her.
Smiling wickedly, Sierra pulled out her phone and dialed a number. “Hey, I need something.”
A man’s voice answered. “What do you want?”
“I need poison,” Sierra said. “The kind that kills if it’s put in soup. I’ll pay anything.”
The man chuckled. “This is the black market. I can get anything for the right price.”
“I need it now!”
“Sure. Come get it.”
“Okay!”
Sierra glanced one last time at Halsey in the hospital room, her smile sharp and cruel, before leaving. She hailed a cab straight to a dark alley and met her contact.
The man handed her a small bag of powder. “Here’s what you asked for.”
Sierra checked it quickly. “This is poison, right? I need something deadly!”
The man grinned. “You’re so pretty, I didn’t expect you to be so cruel. Don’t worry. Anyone who drinks even a sip of this poison won’t survive.”

Perfect. This was exactly what Sierra wanted. “Good. I’ll pay you now.”
“Pleasure doing business,” he said.
Sierra handed over the money and then took a cab to Zada’s apartment. Zada had always been her pawn, and now, this pawn was about to serve its ultimate purpose.
Half an hour later, Sierra arrived. She rang the doorbell.
Zada opened the door and was surprised to see Sierra. “What are you doing here?”
Sierra smiled sweetly. “You went to see Halsey, right? I was worried, so I came to ask you how she’s doing.”
Zada gestured her in. “Come on in.”
Sierra stepped inside, and Zada closed the door.
