The Indifferent Ex-Husband: Heartstrings in the Mall of Fate novel Chapter 695

Brandon had always thought he had everything figured out, but when he sat down and really did the math, he realized Ivan was like a persistent shadow in their lives.

The people Brandon struggled to track down, Ivan seemed to bump into just while taking a stroll around the block.

Brandon's brow furrowed deeper.

Sophia noticed his increasing frustration. "What's going on?" she asked, puzzled.

Since she and Ivan weren't involved romantically, she couldn't comprehend what was bothering Brandon.

"It's nothing," Brandon replied, not wanting to delve into the details of how often Ivan seemed to cross paths with her, worried she might get caught up in the idea of fate.

"He has feelings for you, and I don't trust him," Brandon added.

"Shouldn't you be worried if I had feelings for him?" Sophia countered, a bit exasperated.

She didn't. At least, not at the moment. Unless, maybe in the past...

Sophia felt a twinge of unease. They had reconnected at the university when her marriage with Brandon was on the rocks. What if she had...

Brandon gave her a knowing look. "What are you feeling guilty about?"

"I..." Sophia hesitated, looking at him. "Do you think I might've had a thing for him back in school? I mean, at that time, our marriage was struggling, and suddenly there was this charming, possibly kind guy."

Brandon shook his head firmly. "No way. Even if I wasn't by your side then, I had people keeping an eye on things. If you were getting close to Ivan, I would've known."

Sophia felt a wave of relief. "That's good to know."

Brandon, however, wasn't entirely reassured. His informants had missed her pregnancy and the birth of their child. If something had sparked between her and Ivan, it wasn't impossible.

He didn't let this worry show.

Her visible relief eased his mind a bit. He turned and pulled a card from a drawer, handing it to her. "This is an elevator card for the top floor. You can come up anytime without needing to be announced."

Sophia looked at the card, a flicker of déjà vu washing over her.

Brandon watched her reaction silently.

He had previously asked HR to send the card to her, but she had refused it.

So, he had them send it back to him.

As she continued to stare at the card, Brandon gently took her hand, placing the card inside it, and glanced at her. "Come on, let's go eat and catch a movie. We don't want to keep Theresa waiting."

Theresa perked up at the mention of her name, excited. "Are we going to the movies?"

Sophia smiled at her. "Yes, we are. Let's go."

---

The cinema they chose was located in the bustling West District Mall.

President Poe had scheduled a lunch meeting there.

To save time, Sophia and Brandon decided to have dinner and watch a movie there too. They didn't expect to run into Susan, who was there conducting market research with a client.

Susan had returned to her old job, working in retail leasing.

Despite Brandon and Kent offering her positions, she chose to join another real estate company through an interview.

It wasn't about refusing help from friends, but with Sophia and Brandon's relationship being unclear at the time, she didn't want to make things awkward by accepting a favor from Brandon, which could potentially complicate things with Sophia.

A few months down the line, she had carved out a niche for herself through her skills and was reluctant to give it up to join Starlight Group.

She was leading a project similar to the West District Mall, just in a different part of town.

Today, she was showing a client around to help them understand the target demographic for their store.

She didn't expect to run into Sophia, Brandon, and their daughter Theresa. Raising an eyebrow in surprise, she teased Brandon, "Well, Mr. Crawley, it's unusual to see you shopping with your family during work hours. Did the sun rise in the west today?"

Brandon ignored her teasing, giving her a once-over. "What are you doing here?"

He had been meaning to contact her anyway.
