Chapter 291 – Ruin Me, Royal
–LIA’S POV–
We all sat huddled up in the pack house lounge, sprawled on the carpet instead of the sofas.
Zane sat next to me, his arm secure around my shoulders, holding me close. Opposite us sat Sheila and Aaron, her head resting on his shoulder while he ran his hand through her hair. Beside Sheila was Sapphire, half-way in Warner’s lap, staring at him with stars in her gaze. On Aaron’s other side was Ajax, sitting cross-legged with his elbows on his lap, chin resting on his hands as he stared at Christy expectantly.
Christy sat with Nathan in the centre of it all, her heartbeat slightly louder than normal, clutching her phone with both
hands.
“Guys, I’m warning you all,” she muttered, looking around at us. “This is just the first draft, there might be mistakes and I’m not a very good narrator.”
I smiled. “Don’t worry, Chris, we know. Just start.”
She took a deep breath to calm her nerves, and Nathan gently rubbed her back to reassure her.
Zane chuckled beside me, leaning in to my ear. “Do I really have
to be nice?” he asked, his lips tracing my skin.
Tingles shot through me, but they didn’t startle me anymore. They were almost constant ever since we’d completed our bond.
“Yes,” I replied, grinning. “Don’t be a jerk.”
“Fine,” he pouted, you’re no fun.”
“Alright!” Christy announced, almost making me flinch. “The ⚫ book is called Ruin Me, Royal – Trapped Between Brothers. It’s a
werewolf romance story, based in a high school.”
Almost every eyebrow in the room shot up, except Christy’s and
Nathan’s.
“Nice,” Ajax said a bit too loud, amusement flickering in his
gaze.
“With royalty,” Christy added, shooting him a glare.
“Oh,” I said, nodding with relief.
“Yes. The female lead is a studious and intelligent princess–”
“Nice,” Ajax said again, tone dripping with sarcasm.
I smiled, leaning into Zane.
Christy ignored him this time. “And there are two male leads.”
Zane clapped, his face falling. “Wow, Chris, how original,” he grumbled.
She shot him a look. “They’re brothers.”
“See,” I said, “it is original. So is she mated to both of them?”
“She doesn’t know yet.”
“Why not?”
“Because I’m still working on it,” Christy snapped. “Will you guys hold in your reactions for a bit? You’ll have time to roast me at the end.”
“Okay, okay, sorry.”
Her eyes returned to her cellphone, and then she began reading
out a scene to us.
“”I… I don’t have anything to hide,” I muttered, but I sounded unsure of myself.
“You don’t?”
“No.”
“Okay,” Prince Karl said, shrugging. “Then you’ll accept my terms, won’t you?”
I pursed my lips, curious. “What are they?”
“As you may have already judged, I treat life like a game. Something to enjoy. Something to keep winning at. And that makes me thirst for challenges. For danger. Something I can conquer.”
. What’s he getting at? Nia muttered in my head. I don’t like the
sound of this, Kayley.
Me neither. But let him complete.
“So I have come up with a proposal for you. Something that benefits both of us,” he said.
“I’m listening.”
“What if… we played a game?”
“What kind?”
“The kind where you get a hundred chances to win, but I’m only allowed to lose once.
I raised a brow, waiting for him to elaborate.
Clese
“Every day I spend in your kingdom, at Moonshine Academy for the Gifted, you assign me a difficult task. Something that isn’t impossible, but not easily doable either. It can be insulting. It can be physically taxing. Or it can be downright dangerous. For every task I complete successfully, you reveal a part of yourself to me, something about you that no one else knows. But if I fail, even at a single task, I do everything in my power to take my brother and leave Xamore.”
My mouth parted in shock.
Could he really be serious about this?
There had to be a catch.
“What if you cannot convince your brother to go with you?” I
