The Paper Wife’s Empire novel Chapter 111

She and Jotham weren’t fighting. Truth be told, they’d been little more than strangers for a long time. But as for the score between them, she wasn’t finished yet.

“I know the Holt family doesn’t lack for anything. These supplements are just a small token from me, paid for out of my own pocket. If you don’t need them, please feel free to do as you wish.”

Ramona, always considerate of Liliane’s health, made sure her words were tactful and left no room for offense.

Liliane looked as if she wanted to say something more, but Ramona spoke up first. “Liliane, please rest well. I’ll be going now.”

“Ramona, wait—Ramona!” Liliane hurriedly tried to catch Ramona’s arm, but Ramona was already halfway out the door before anyone could react, her steps quick and determined.

Jotham rushed to steady his grandmother, worried she’d get too worked up. “Grandma, please don’t overexert yourself. You need to take care of your health.”

“Go after Ramona! No matter what, bring her back home!”

Liliane’s face flushed with anxiety. She barely spared a thought for herself as she practically shoved Jotham toward the door.

Winnie and Eulalia, though still simmering with resentment, had no choice but to support Liliane’s wishes and watched as Jotham hurried out to chase after Ramona.

Ramona moved fast. By the time Jotham caught up, she had already entered the elevator. With no other option, he dashed down the stairs, taking them two at a time, all the way to the parking garage.

“Ramona!”

He caught up with her just before she got into her car.

She hadn’t gotten in yet, almost as if she were waiting for him. She stood by the car, phone in hand, her posture composed.

“Ramona, my grandmother only said those things because she cares about us. You brought gifts today, which is very thoughtful, but isn’t the greatest kindness to respect the wishes of our elders? Don’t be upset. For my grandmother’s sake, let’s go home, okay?”

Jotham was slightly out of breath, and as he spoke, he tried to reach for her arm.

But as he drew closer, he realized she was on a call.

“Yes, thank you. I have all the evidence I need on my end.”

She hung up, then finally looked at him. “Good, you’re here. Milo scratched my car. My dashcam caught the whole thing. You should take a look.”

Jotham froze, only now noticing the deep scratches gouged into the side of the car behind her. The flashy red Bentley was unfamiliar. She must’ve recently bought it.

Ramona held out her phone for him to see.
