The Paper Wife’s Empire novel Chapter 48

“What’s going on?” Ramona immediately replied.

She knew the people she’d brought onto the team could all handle pressure; they wouldn’t complain unless something serious had happened.

As soon as Ramona appeared in the group chat, replies came flooding in.

Turned out, Jotham had taken Brianna to a client meeting today. When they got back, the client abruptly asked about the termination process. Now, the company chat was in complete chaos.

Brianna, in a foul mood, started taking it out on Ramona’s team.

And this wasn’t even the first time. Brianna had only been here two days, yet it felt like she’d made it her personal mission to target them—transferring all their projects elsewhere and slashing their bonuses under every possible pretext.

A flash of coldness crossed Ramona’s eyes. After a long pause, she finally typed out a line:

“Don’t worry. Take some time off and leave the company mess to me. I’ll handle it.”

With Ramona’s reply, everyone felt a renewed sense of confidence.

Ramona was both a mentor and a friend to them. From day one, she’d been their strongest support.

Everyone believed that as long as Ramona was around, the team wouldn’t fall apart.

Closing the chat window, Ramona considered for a moment before dialing one of her people.

“Get me some photos of Brianna these days—her cozying up to Jotham and hanging around the Holt family. Send them straight to Jotham’s mother.”

Ramona knew Winnie all too well. Winnie despised Brianna for trying to seduce Jotham, and now that Brianna had moved into the Holt family’s house like she owned the place, Winnie would go ballistic if she found out.

Ramona had planned to let Jotham sweat for a bit, but she hadn’t expected Brianna to start bullying her people so soon.

Well, so be it.

Letting Winnie deal with Brianna would kill three birds with one stone: Brianna would be too busy to stir up trouble for Ramona’s team, Winnie would get her revenge, and Jotham would find himself caught in the crossfire.

Setting down her phone, Ramona barely had a moment to breathe before her assistant rushed in.

“Ms. Jarrett, um…”

Ramona’s gaze chilled when she noticed the assistant’s empty hands. “Where’s what I asked for?”

“They said, since you don’t have full company access yet, there’s… nothing they can give you at the moment.”

The assistant hung her head, clearly having been given the runaround.

Ramona had been back at Covington Group for several days now, but the shareholders were avoiding her, and she was kept completely out of the loop regarding company affairs.

She knew exactly what was happening—Melinda was orchestrating everything behind the scenes, trying to sideline her completely.
