The Paper Wife’s Empire novel Chapter 66

Ramona watched the scene unfold, a gentle warmth blooming in her chest.

She quickly called Nova, telling her to update the team chat if anything came up and she would be out of the office for an hour.

Once she’d finished giving instructions, Ramona meant to lead the elderly couple to the parking garage, but they were already waiting for her outside the building.

A sleek, extended Rolls-Royce was parked right at the curb.

Definitely VIP clients, she thought.

Ramona followed them into the car, settling into the back seat. As soon as she sat down, an assistant appeared with a large tray piled high with pastries and drinks, offering it to her.

“Ms. Jarrett, please, help yourself. Try whatever you like. If it’s not enough, we’ll have them bring more,” the elderly woman said, her smile warm and full of affection.

Ramona waved her hands in protest, feeling her heart soften. “You really don’t need to go to all this trouble. You’re my special guests. It’s my job to take care of you.”

Growing up in an orphanage, she’d always been the one looking after others. Being fussed over by elders like this left her a little flustered.

“Ms. Jarrett, you’re just like a daughter to us—a good girl, truly,” the elderly woman said fondly.

Ramona blushed under their kind gaze and ventured softly, “By the way, I just realized I haven’t asked how I should address you both… If you prefer not to share, that’s perfectly fine. I just don’t want to be rude and use the wrong title.” Her voice was gentle and inviting, impossible not to like.
