Ramona felt especially moved today after being fussed over by two kind-hearted elders.
She could only climb into the car, trying to be gentle but firm. “I really appreciate your kindness, but I’m swamped with work right now. My project deadline is coming up, and there’s still so much left to do. I just don’t have time to go out for a meal.”
“That’s all right. We’ve already taken care of it.”
Mrs. Jordon smiled warmly and gestured to her assistant in the backseat, who promptly produced several elegant, custom-made wooden lunch boxes—stacked seven tiers high.
They knew Ramona was busy and didn’t want her to go far, so they’d gone to the trouble of having a Michelin-star chef prepare her meal. The only pity was… the food had grown cold by now.
“Mrs. Jordon…” Ramona’s voice trembled with emotion. She never expected the two of them would go to such lengths for her. She was genuinely touched, almost overwhelmed.
From the moment she was born, she’d never experienced anything quite like this. It felt almost as if she were being pampered and doted on by family. So this is what it’s like to be cared for by the family?
“Oh dear, if it’s cold, you shouldn’t eat it. How about this? Why don’t you wait a little longer, and I’ll have someone bring you a fresh meal?” Mr. Jordon chimed in quickly.
“No, that’ll take too long. Why don’t you just take these to the office and heat them up? Ms. Jarrett is busy. We shouldn’t take up more of her time.” Mrs. Jordon suggested after a moment’s thought.
Ramona looked at them with concern. “You both haven’t eaten either, have you? There’s enough here for three people. Since I’m already here, why don’t we eat together?”
“Well… we haven’t, but it’s really no trouble. Ms. Jarrett, you need your strength for work!” Mrs. Jordon waved her hands, not wanting Ramona to feel obliged.
But Ramona had already made up her mind and gave the driver her home address. “My place isn’t far. Let’s take the food there and warm it up. We can all eat together.”
She added, “And if you’d like to stay over tonight, I’d love to have you. I’ve got everything I need to work from home, so I can keep you company.”
It was obvious to Ramona that the two elders wished they could spend every moment with her today. They’d mentioned an eight-hour flight, so their home clearly wasn’t nearby. After all, old age could be lonely, and Ramona felt honored to be so cherished by them.
At her words, the couple’s faces instantly lit up. They nodded in eager agreement.
