Afraid Ramona might mistake his cold expression as directed at her, Ethan quickly clarified, “I’m just upset that my grandparents showed up unannounced and rushed everything without even talking to us first.”
Ramona let out a breath of relief. Remembering how well-meaning the elderly couple was, she said softly, “They’re only doing it for our sake. Honestly, it’s not a bad thing to settle these important matters sooner rather than later.”
Ethan’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he replied, “I know you care about them. To be honest, getting engaged was always part of my plan. It’s just that I didn’t expect it to happen so suddenly. I should have talked things through with you first, instead of letting you get blindsided like this.”
As soon as he said that, most of Ramona’s unease melted away.
Even Florence and Phineas, standing nearby, visibly relaxed.
So, the boy wasn’t unwilling, he just hated being pushed around.
Turning to his grandparents, Ethan’s voice regained its steady composure. “Let’s get you in the car. I’ll drive you home.”
Then he glanced back at Ramona. “I’ll call you later, after I’ve settled them in. We can go over the details for tomorrow night’s party. If there’s anything you’re not comfortable with or want to change, just let me know.”
That answer left his grandparents so pleasantly surprised that for a moment, neither of them could speak.
Did he just… agree?
Florence squeezed Ramona’s hand warmly. “Ramona, we’ll see you tomorrow night! You’re working too hard. Take a day off tomorrow and don’t go to the office. I’ll send someone over to help you get ready, so you can just relax until it’s time for the party. And I’ll make sure you get a big gift!”
Phineas chimed in, “That’s right, Ramona. Don’t worry about a thing. With Florence, Ethan, and me by your side, you’ll always have someone looking out for you.”
The two of them practically wanted to treat her like a precious princess, holding her in the palm of their hands.
After Florence and Phineas left, Ramona quickly sent a message to her private group chat, inviting her friends to the engagement party the next day, and even sent a generous cash bonus so they could buy dresses on short notice.
The chat instantly exploded with cheers and excitement, everyone celebrating for Ramona.
Nova couldn’t help but gush about Ethan. “Mr. Jordon is just so dreamy! Ramona, I’m seriously about to cry for you. Who even cares about Jotham? Mr. Jordon is obviously your soulmate!”
