The Paper Wife’s Empire novel Chapter 86

“Oh, I just wanted to ask, Mr. Jordon, are you free for dinner tomorrow night?”

Ethan paused, as if waiting for something. He glanced over at Ash and reached out for his planner. After a quick look, it was obvious that tomorrow was packed from morning to night.

Ash couldn’t help but feel sorry for him.

Ethan was always working, year-round. Now that he finally had a fiancée, they barely had any time together.

“I’m free.”

But after reviewing his schedule, Ethan’s expression didn’t change as he answered.

Ash was stunned, momentarily unsure if he should remind Ethan that tomorrow’s appointments were absolutely unmovable.

“Really?” Ramona sounded genuinely surprised, her voice brightening immediately. “Then I’ll pick out the restaurant. My treat, Mr. Jordon, I’ll send you the address later.”

“Alright.” Ethan’s reply was soft, uncharacteristically gentle.

When he hung up, Ash even noticed a hint of a smile lingering at the corners of Ethan’s mouth.

“Sir… about tomorrow’s schedule…”

“What’s so important about tomorrow?” Ethan asked, as though he hadn’t heard Ash at all.

“Tomorrow…” Ash thought for a moment, quickly checked his phone, then exclaimed, “Sir, tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day!”

He suddenly understood.

“Ah, Ms. Jarrett wants to spend Valentine’s Day with you!”

For couples, a holiday like this was a big deal. No wonder Ethan was willing to push things aside.

A shadow flickered in Ethan’s eyes.

Valentine’s Day…

That morning, Florence had pressed him to invite Ramona home for dinner tomorrow, reminding him to buy her a gift for the holiday. He’d been in a rush to leave, so he hadn’t thought much about it until now.

Even if Ramona hadn’t called, he would have checked the date and made arrangements anyway.

But she’d called first. Did that mean… she’d been thinking about him too?

...

Meanwhile, with Jotham looking after her, Brianna was finally feeling a bit better.

She’d been so upset at the store that she felt her blood pressure spike, her legs give out, and her vision blur. Passing out had been half genuine, half deliberate.

She simply couldn’t take it—watching Jotham grovel to Ramona like that! It was more than she could stand; she’d nearly lost the will to live.

Thankfully, at the critical moment, Jotham’s first instinct had still been to worry about her. The moment she fainted, he’d abandoned Ramona and rushed Brianna to the hospital instead.

He’d made sure the doctor prescribed something for her, then waited by her side until she recovered, even cooking her dinner himself when they got home.
