Chapter 100

Zephyrine

“She is a Lycan. Don’t you see how different she is?”

“Why is she even here?”

“Well, I heard the rumors that Apex gave…

I turn to the maids who were speaking silently, and the rest of the words froze on their lips.

“Address the Lycan King with respect if you want to speak about him.” I said quietly and gently turned to beckon at Blue. “She is my personal maid, and she will stay here.”

My maids exchanged glances, and Isolde walked ahead to speak carefully.

“But Milady… there is no chamber left for a new maid, and also… a Lycan in a werewolf pack will need permission to…”

“I will talk to my love about it.” I cut her off with a small smile and added, “Blue will stay here. I mean in my chamber. No need to make a room for her. I will take my bath.”

Isolde stared at me in awe, and I saw her face flush. Gently she nodded and walked to open the bath chamber door wide. Yes, I realized she was faithful. They had truly made preparations.

Slowly I stepped into it. My eyes fell on the large bath pool and the massive symbol of Ashmere right on the wall. Dresses were neatly arranged at the side, and candles burned softly at each angle. Somehow, I could only remember one person. One man.

When the tender fingers of Isolde came to undress me, I could only stare at the water, memories taking me down the path. Lycannar and I had made love in his bath chamber, and he had taken everything I am.

My dress fell down my feet, and I stepped into the water, the soothing softness making me sigh. How much I had missed home. How much I had missed it.

For a long time, I lowered my eyelids to savor the moment, and when I fluttered them open, it was because of Isolde’s hands on me, bathing me. I allowed her. It was her task, but on the other hand, while I missed Blue’s touch, I relaxed in the familiar touch of Isolde too.

An elderly, smart, beautiful woman. With her hair braided just like the rest of the maids, she carried the air of their leader.

“I have bathed you every day for a long time, but after returning after five years… your body has changed.” Her whisper came softly to my ear as she cleaned my breast. “It’s more tender and more swollen. You mentioned the word ‘love‘ a while ago. Milady, do you have a man in your life now?”

That question hung in the air, and I swallowed hard.

“You all will know soon. Before then, you can listen to the rumors.”

“Don’t remove it.” I commanded, my tone harsher than I intended, and she paused, froze. A few seconds later, I regretted it.

I had been edgy since my return, and I had been cold. I lowered my gaze to sigh.

Isolde had moved to pull out my ring, the one Lycannar had gifted me, and I snapped.

“It’s the purest gold I have ever seen. But then again, this isn’t among the jewelry an Ashmere must wear, Milady.”

I swallowed hard and nodded.

“I know.” I whispered, staring at my reflection in the mirror. “I didn’t wear 10 sch

Silence descended immediately in the chamber. Everyone froze, even I, finally said it but before they could recover, I rose from where I sat.

She flashed me a sweet smile, just like she had always done. And before I would have meekly replied in kind, instead I asked curtly,

“What do the rumors say?”

Silence fell at my tone, and I read the room. They had all expected the cheerful woman, but who they met was different.

“They said you are the Lycan King’s mistress,” one of the elders said, and I looked at him in silence. “If you really want to be the first female Alpha, you will have to earn it by being respectful. You can’t lay in bed with anyone.”

I lowered my gaze at his words, and a sigh fell from my lips. His uncle had insulted me once, and Lycannar had retaliated by stabbing a fork in his hand. This elder of mine had just addressed Lycannar as ‘anyone. He needed to pay.

“Jurrek?” I called, and he walked forward, leaning to hear me, but my voice was loud enough for everyone to hear the warning.

“Have him strip off his title and status.”

Clatter!

I heard it immediately my order was given, and Jurrek bowed obediently.

In a twinkle of an eye, the elder who had been unfortunate fell on his knees and crawled over, begging.

“My lady, spare me! I beg you.”

His voice echoed in the chamber, but I looked up toward everyone, ignoring him, for there would be no forgiveness for those who call Lycannar’s name in vain.

“First new rule. Lycannar Blood won’t be disrespected. If his name must be called, it is solely with utmost respect. Second rule. No one should mention Varyn, my brother’s name. He is dead. We will give up every search on him. After five years, it is only my parents‘ ashes I found, and that is enough. And lastly… the wait is over. Bring forth the priestess, prepare the rituals. Ash Pack will have its Alpha, and it will be I, Zephyrine

Ashmere.”
