Chapter 121

Lycannar

I remember vividly the battlefield, that week, the chaos, the blood, the orders.

My brother was the first warlord to go, following the Royal command strictly. It has clearly said Slaughter, no mercy, no saving.

But something happened on the first battle so Xyrrha, the demon war general, had been commanded to lead the next wave, and she came home defeated.

The one who had bested her, the fierce warrior the surviving demons still whisper about… was it Zephyrine?

I stood at the portal, hands folded across my chest, feeling it pulse and shimmer. How tangled everything was. How easily I could find the loose ends now.

I bowed my head, recalling all that had happened. I had seen her parents, their faces seared into my memory. I swallowed hard and gaze into space.

For a long moment I stared at the portal. A vast ocean stretching behind the Lycan Kingdom. To ordinary eyes, it was just water, but it was more. Beneath it lay another realm, sealed from the shifter empire. We call it The demons.

I am part of them, I love them, I respect them. It is still my home. My stepfather rules there, kinder than my biological father ever was. My stepbrother, my closest bond, lives there too and will rule it after my stepfather, the demon king died.

I stepped back from the ocean bank, exhaling slowly.

Zephyrine.

She is still in my kingdom. I can feel it. She is raw with emotion, still unaware of truths she deserves to know. If she were to discover that I am part demon… I swallowed hard, the thought bitter in my chest.

I turned from the portal and walk into the hallway in silence. She deserves the truth, all of it, but not yet. For now, some pieces could be revealed; the rest would come later.

I reached the dining hall to see my two sisters. Their gazes spoke volumes, and Mearez rushed forward to stand before me.

“Lycannar. She deserves honesty. She has given her true heart for us all. We can’t lie to her.”

I nodded, swallowing.

“I know. I will talk to her.” And without another word, I passed her, taking the stairs up to my tower. I stopped at the doorway, scanning the living room.

She was nowhere and I walk into the Bed chamber only to find it empty as well. Then I match into the corridor

Slowly, I moved forward, eyes finding her standing there, hands folded over her chest. She needed answers.

“Tell me what you know about my family. And your relationship with that war general you call Xyrrha? You must love her to know her name,” she snapped, eyes piercing.

I blinked, blank, caught between awe and disbelief. I get why she is jealous now.

“I wasn’t in love with Xyrrha,” I said gently. She stared harder, and I shrugged. “I swear it.”

A small frown formed, and she walked to sit on a wooden chair, her eyes now on me.

“How do you know about my parents and brother? What connection do you have with demons?”

“After the battle, the demons sought refuge in this kingdom,” I replied, sitting across from her, eyes locked on hers. “You tore open the portal and broke the darkest spell, a gateway for them. They had nowhere else to go. They can’t live in Werewolf packs or rogue towns. This kingdom became their only refuge.”

She stared, awed, silent. I wondered what question she might ask next, but none came, She lowered her gaze, shaking her head, murmuring,

“So you shelter the demons who killed my parents…”

I went still, not from her words, but from the hatred that laced them. The venom in her tone made my heart plummet.

What if she discovered I was partly demon? Would she… break us apart? Regret loving me?

I lowered my gaze, set my jaw, and resolved. Some truths must remain hidden for now. She deserved the full story eventually, but the time had not yet come.
