I moved my eyes away from her mirror and slipped into her bath chamber. There she was, pulling off her robe to step into the water.
Beautiful. That was all I could think when she stood bare before me. Her breasts were firm. I knew because I had touched them. Her moans were lovely and intoxicating. I had heard them. She was sweet. I could tell, because I had tasted her.
I watched her sink into the water and begin to bathe.
I had read the letters and been stunned. I left for White Pack to inform her, but since she wasn’t there, I returned to my kingdom only to find my uncle, Ureh.
He explained everything far better. It wasn’t my stepfather, but my true father who wanted me dead. The Demon King had agreed, believing I was becoming too dangerous.
I kept silent for days and nights, until the invitation came, delivered in utmost respect, one I honored.
Now here we were. I had told her everything, though leaving out the most tangible detail that I was also part demon. But for her now, demons were not the villains. The true villains were the Imperium Council she had trusted. The true villain was that envoy who had carried letters across realms.
As I watched Zephyrine bathe gently, I wondered what she would do. I couldn’t guess. But I already knew what I would do. I would make Stone of Blackwater pay for laying hands on her. For daring to attack her. His fate was already sealed.
“Apex?” Her voice broke my thoughts, and I blinked to see her grinning sheepishly. She just called me Apex. “Lycannar.”
I smiled at her.
“Hmm?”
“Come join me.”
I looked down at the water. Rose petals floating, a delicious fragrance filling the air.
Ash Pack. Never in my wildest thoughts had I imagined I’d set foot in here. Built to fortify wars, its walls were meant never to be breached. Yet here I was, stepping into the bath with her.
She leaned up to kiss my cheek, then pulled away giggling, making me wonder what she found so amusing in this morning.
I swam closer, pressing her gently against the concrete pool wall. She stopped smiling when she saw the hunger in my eyes. Breathing hard, her gaze searched mine as she leaned in to kiss me.
I kissed her tenderly, my lips claiming hers as my hands slid to her waist. Then my mouth trailed from her lips down to her neck, and lower still to her breast.
“Lycan…” she moaned, and gods, I loved it every time.

Her gaze fluttered, dark with desire. She brought the finger I’d used on her to my mouth, urging me to taste her.
“You will be there for me every time? You won’t judge?” Her voice trembled. “You are my only anchor, Lycan. The only one who doesn’t expect me to be strong at all times. You will be there when…”
I kissed her lips before panic could steal her words.
“If the burden is ever too heavy, Zephyrine, I’ll still be right here. I’ll never judge you. No matter how cruel your vengeance because they deserve it. They made you an orphan. They isolated your brother. They caused my men to die. If ever you want to shed blood…” My voice dropped. “I’ll place the dagger in your hand myself.”
She swallowed hard at my vow, then shifted to straddle me.

“But that envoy…?” I asked quietly.
She set her jaw.
“Sit and watch, my love. Before anything however, rescuing Varyn come first.”
