I had seen shock before when I revealed my true identity as an Ashmere but this time, it was vastly different. Vastly out of space.
A woman thought to be dead, rising from the ashes?
Kaela froze, her eyes widening in utter awe, while the crowd parted for her. The one who had endured too much, who would bow her head, fall to her knees, even attempt to end her life if that meant saving her son.
Luna Tahlia. Alive.
She rose like a vision. Beautiful. Elegant. And in her, I saw the truth of her words, that she had been trained only to lead with grace. She walked to me first, her gaze clinging to mine as though I were her savior.
“You are here,” she said, gratitude trembling in her voice. She remembered my promise that I would not leave her hanging.
I swallowed and nodded.
“Of course I am. But go now. This is your spotlight. I won’t steal it.”
Her eyes lightning.
softened before she turned to Kaela, who stumbled backward as though struck by
“She is… a ghost. She is dead! Even her son was ruled dead. Why is she here now?”
Murmurs rose from every corner, swelling until the market square buzzed with fear and awe. I stayed silent, deciding to watch it all play out. If she truly wanted to lead her son’s pack, she would have to stand her ground.
Tahlia stepped forward, pausing at Warrior June’s battered figure. His body was broken, his chest bleeding, but still, he knelt tall. She lowered her gaze in guilt, then nodded at the guards.
“Release him.”
At once, they obeyed, unbinding him until he collapsed before her.
The members of Blackbridge were here too, and it was clear, they had never needed a savior more. Under Yadev’s reign, they had gained nothing. Only poverty and despair.

“You were ruled dead, Luna Tahlia,” Lady Sylvara of the Council snapped harshly. “How can you stand here alive?”
“I was ruled dead to survive. An Ashmere saved me when no one else would. This Council was formed to bring peace and unity, but all you have done is play favorites and cast me out.” She strode forward, her voice echoing. “It was proven after the duel months ago that my son is the rightful ruler of Blackbridge Pack. I am here to claim it back.”
Silence pressed down until Kaela cracked. She rushed forward, glaring into Tahlia’s face.
“Choose your words carefully, Luna. We all know the son in your arms is not…”
“You will be silent.” Tahlia cut her off, her voice sharp as steel. “Your words would betray you if I open the truth. If I were you, I’d stay quiet.”
Kaela’s lips snapped shut.
“You cannot return from the dead and demand an Alpha’s seat,” Osmir, another Council member, barked.
But Tahlia only smirked.
“Then let’s ask the people. Let’s ask Warrior June. Let’s ask the other Alphas. Do you call Yadev’s rule holy? Do you call it just?”
For a heartbeat, silence stretched. Then voices rose from the crowd.
“We want our true Luna back!”
“Yes! Yadev has only led us into ruin!”
The tide swelled until even Warrior June stood tall, his voice carrying weight.
“We will not follow Yadev anymore. If Luna Tahlia does not return, then we, the Blackbridge guards and armies will go rogue.”
“You dare defy me?!” Yadev thundered. “You are still on death row, Warrior June! You won’t live long enough to go rogue!”
“Why?” Tahlia’s voice rang out, silencing him. “Because he refused to lead an army against Alpha Zephyrine and the Lycan King? Against their mission to rescue Varyn Ashmere, the very one Kaela Yadev sold into slavery for five years?!”
That broke everything.

The crowd erupted, shock rippling like a storm. My chest tightened, emotions threatening to break me, until I felt Hades’s hand steady me at my back. I leaned into his strength, grateful beyond words.
Every eye turned to Kaela. What began as an execution had now shifted into the reinstatement of the true Luna, and a damning glare at her who called herself “envoy of peace.”
“A notice will come to you soon,” the Council finally declared. “Your son shall inherit the seat his true father left him.”
Luna Tahlia froze, her eyes distant even as jubilation broke among her people. It wasn’t a full victory, not yet but it was a beginning. Her son would no longer live in hiding.
She turned to me, her lips trembling as she bit them to hold back her tears. Slowly, she bowed.
“I will never be able to repay you for this. Will you still forgive me?”
I squeezed her hand gently.
“Repay me by being strong. I trust you.”
She nodded, then leaned close, whispering words that chilled me to the bone.
“Beta Jurrek sent word, Alpha Zephyrine.”
I frowned.
“What word?”
“Your brother is unstable. You need to come. It’s urgent.”
The joy around me faded instantly. Panic coiled in my veins. I turned to Hades in desperation.
“Please, can I borrow Lycannar’s horse?”
He searched my eyes, then nodded.
“Of course,”
“Then take Luna Tahlia back with you to the Lycan Kingdom. She’ll be safe there until the notice comes to restore her.”
Again, he nodded, steady and sure.
“I’ll keep her safe.”

With that, I ran for the great black steed of the Lycan King. Mounting it, I marveled at its raw strength before urging it forward.
The beast surged into a gallop, carrying me down the road, racing back toward Ash Pack, toward my brother.
