That was the first confession that shattered the hall that day. In the center of it all, before thousands, she dropped to her knees and begged.
but “The envoy of peace everyone knows me as… it wasn’t a complete lie. I was an envoy, between here and the Demon Realm. I delivered sealed letters back and forth, never realizing they were written to stir war already agreed upon. When the mission ended, the Council ordered me to lay low for years, to make my mission of peace believable. With no funds left to support myself, I turned to an ugly solution. Their last order was to kill Varyn Ashmere. But I didn’t. Instead, I sold him to Blackwater, bartered his body for my comfort these past five years.”
It was done. The awe flooding the Wolf Fortress was palpable. She confessed without hesitation. I had expected her to twist, to deceive, to cling to cunning, but no. She was surrendering.
“After
my return, I not only sought to usurp Luna Tahlia’s place, I threw myself into her husband’s bed, the late Alpha Black.”
“My gods…”
“How treacherous…”
“She is vile!”
Murmurs spread like wildfire among the packs. My eyes slid to Luna Tahlia, standing tall with her son in her arms. She blinked back tears, listening as Kaela pressed on.
“We copulated many times and…” She paused. The silence choked the fortress. Even Nyroth looked struck dumb. “A few days before his death, I realized, I was pregnant with Alpha Black’s pup.”
Tension smothered the room. I froze, turning toward Luna Tahlia, who stood pale as stone.
“Liar!” the Luna spat. “Black never impregnated you! Do not worm your way back in after everything you’ve done! You were rutting with Alpha Nyroth of Hue Pack too!”
Kaela faltered at that, but only for a breath. Then, to my shock, her eyes brimmed with tears. False tears, but convincing enough.

“Luna Tahlia…” she said softly. The woman stepped back as though stung by her pretense. “I know you never loved me. And yes, I’ve sinned against you. But I beg you. Please accept me back into Blackbridge. My father and I will not trouble you. And the child within me will never hinder your son’s claim. Please, I beg you.”
Luna Tahlia was speechless. Politics twisted truth into rot. Justice bent before all eyes.
Slowly she turned to me, desperate. I swallowed.
“You were with Nyroth of Hue Pack, Kaela. Everyone knows. And your time with Alpha Black ended months before his death…”
I spoke, but Lady Sylvara cut across me.
“Young Black will be reinstated as Alpha of Blackbridge. Luna Tahlia will rule in his stead until he comes of age.”
Lord Osmir added, “Kaela Yadev, her father, and the rest of their line will remain in Blackbridge. It is their pack too. And she bears the late Alpha’s pup.”
Lord Eryndor finished, “We cannot drive them from their rightful pack, can we?”
My knees nearly buckled. Injustice. Naked.
I turned to Luna Tahlia. Her eyes fixed on the Imperium Council, then hardened as she shook her head.
“You call this justice? You call this a trial?!”
“You have what you wanted, Luna Tahlia. You will rule Blackbridge,” Lady Sylvara snapped.
“What of my name dragged through mud?!” she burst out. “My mother died under false accusations! If not for Zephyrine Ashmere, I would never have survived!”
Tears streaked her face as she trembled.
“My mother’s house was burned to ash. I lived as the dead, hiding with my child for weeks. Have you ever once asked why? Have you thought of the hand behind it?” She gasped, broken. “The Yadevs are destruction itself. But now I see… you are worse.”
“Choose your words carefully, Luna Tahlia,” Lady Sylvara warned coldly. “We are merciful to let you
rule. We do not even know if that son is truly Black’s. Be satisfied with the crumbs we
grant you. For we are the Imperium Council.”
Defeat hollowed her eyes. Her lips trembled as she turned toward me.
