“Can I have a moment with Jurrek, please? I beg you all.”

Silence filled the room, a quiet so sacred it felt heavy. I thought Mearez would fetch the potion for me to drink, but instead she crossed to the bed and sat beside me. Her eyes were gentle, her hand warm as she took mine.

“You are the best thing that has ever happened to us, Zephyrine,” she said, smiling faintly. “Never forget that and I have no regrets.”

I smiled back, feeling something inside me mend at her words. I loved her. I loved her brothers and sister. I waited, expecting the cure, but what came next shattered me.

The potion wasn’t what she intended to give.

“Lycan?” I called weakly, panic stirring as warmth spread from Mearez’s hand into mine. Her body began to glow faintly, light flowing from her into me.

“No… no, I don’t want this,” I gasped, trying to pull away. But her divinity met my strength, and I realized how powerless I was against her purity. I was a warrior, born of blood and battle, but she was a healer, born of light and life.
