I stood at the window, my bath taken by my maid and my stomach fed. I was dressed in my nightgown, standing still as I watched him walk into White Pack, his horse beside him, moving in sync as always.
Then my eyes shifted to see Princess Mearez’s carriage stop in the courtyard. She stepped out, this time not alone. Her sister, Serena, also alighted, and together they walked into the house, while Lycannar was approached by Alpha Auedric.
I didn’t eavesdrop on their words, but I saw Lycannar nod, and together they walked inside.
Chantel, however, stood beside his own horse after dismounting, holding the reins of Lycannar’s horse in place.
I stared at him for a long moment in silence before lowering my gaze. The story that had been whispered into my ears seemed to carve something deep into my heart.
I was about to step away from the window when Nyroth mounted his horse and rode into White Pack, surprising me. I hurried back to watch him dismount.
He straightened, glanced briefly at Chantel, and then walked into the house.
“Where is Zeph?” Nyroth’s voice called urgently across the room.
“She is in the bedchamber,” I heard Dessyn reply, footsteps approaching. I turned as the door opened, and my mate stood in the doorway, staring at me.
“Zeph,” he said as he walked toward me, his eyes softening. “How do you feel?”
For the first time, he seemed tender, as if he truly cared. I lowered my gaze and frowned gently.
“I feel tired.”
“Then you should lie down,” he said quietly. Without waiting for my response, he pulled out a handkerchief and held it to his nose, surprising me.
“Oh, the handkerchief? My mom suggested it. Don’t worry about it,” he said. “Listen, I’ve come to tell you I’ll go to the Empire Grove to get the flower for your cure, but you’ll need to be strong, Zeph. Can you wait few days?”
I looked at him in confusion.
“Why?”
“Kaela… she has bad cramps. She wants me with her. You know she’s the daughter of an Alpha now, and I need to support her so our packs can trade. I’ll stay a few days. After she recovers… I’ll come to you. I’ll help you…”
The door opened at that moment, interrupting him. Lycannar, the prince who had become a king, the one abused by his father, cursed by the Moon Goddess, abandoned at birth in the prison we call his tower, entered.

His presence was formidable. And as strange as it sounds, just being near him filled me with immense relief.
“You shouldn’t be on your feet,” Lycannar said, taking my arm and guiding me to sit on the bed. He lowered to one knee before me, his palm cupping my neck tenderly.
At last, he lay me on my back and looked down at my face, watching me breathe. Tenderly, he trailed his fingers along my lips.
He didn’t speak. He only nodded and straightened. Just as he was about to leave, I called out again, panic in my voice.
“Lycannar… you are… the first man who kissed me and made love to me.”
He stared at me silently, expression calm, then walked to the bed and took my hand.
“I know,” he replied softly. “My beast can tell many things about you.”

“Like what?”
“That you’re scared to see me leave.” He searched my eyes again. “I’m not going to die.”

“I know you won’t,” I replied sadly, lowering my gaze. “You don’t seem like someone who’d die easily.”
He kissed me, whispering softly, “I will listen to your voice, remember your face, our kisses… your moans when I am losing myself in the Empire Grove.”
“And I will remember your gaze, your grace, your devotion, our kisses…” I kissed him once more, whispering, “and our time at the Black Tower when I nearly went mad waiting for you.”
