“Husband?”
Lindsay arched an eyebrow, a playful smirk on her lips as she teased Yves. “Oh? Husband, now? That’s funny, because just a couple of days ago, you were defending someone else.”
Yves knew he’d messed up. “You’re right, I screwed up. But you’re too smart not to see we both walked right into a trap.”
He didn’t just admit fault—he made sure to flatter her, too.
Lindsay shot back, “So what? Weren’t we both willing participants?”
Yves fell silent, mulling over her words before answering, “You went along with it because you care about me. I did it because I felt guilty about Charles. That’s what they exploited—our weaknesses. After that night, I warned Alexia. She shouldn’t dare try anything again.”
Lindsay agreed with most of what he said, but that last part? She didn’t buy it for a second.
She doubted Alexia even knew how to admit fault, let alone back off so easily. If anything, the way Alexia had orchestrated things lately made it clear: Kris wasn’t her target anymore—Yves was.
Why was Alexia after Yves this time around? Lindsay could only think of one reason—they were cut from the same cloth.
“She won’t stop until she gets what she wants.”
“I made it clear to her that night,” Yves said firmly. “If she tries again, I won’t spare Charles' feelings. Whether she disappears from this world or not, she won’t ever set foot in Skyrim again.”
Lindsay was exhausted. Dealing with people took energy, and tonight, she’d had enough.
“Whatever. I’m done worrying about her. I need some sleep.”
“What about me?” Yves asked softly, genuinely.
Lindsay glanced at the gift he’d placed on his lap. She took it from him, her tone light but final. “Thanks for the apology and the gift. I accept both. You can go now.”
Yves blinked. “…”
He tried again, voice gentle. “Lindsay, I’m not exactly mobile right now. Mind if I crash at Pine Residences tonight?”
