Of course, she knew Norris hadn’t actually killed anyone.

That was how the academy worked. They always started with something fake–an invented weakness, a false accusation–then slowly pulled their client deeper and deeper.
And before long, the fake weakness turned into a real one.
But they never forced people inside against their will. If someone didn’t want to join, the academy left them alone. Dragging in those who weren’t willing would only bring them trouble.
That meant one thing: Norris had chosen to go to the academy himself.
At that moment, the boy Tracy once cared for was gone forever.
She was about to react when Erin suddenly rushed forward, yanking Norris’s hand away and planting herself between them.
“Tracy, Norris made it clear a long time ago that he doesn’t like you. Why won’t you leave him alone?” she accused.
Then she turned, ready to look pitiful and win sympathy from Norris–only to freeze when she saw the state he was in.
Erin instinctively recoiled, wrinkling her nose, even stepping back slightly.
Then, realizing what she had done, she hurriedly covered it up and grabbed onto his arm with both hands. “Norris, you–ah!”
“Don’t touch me! Get away–don’t touch me!”
Norris suddenly exploded, swatting at his arm like it had been touched by something filthy. He shoved Erin so hard that she fell to the ground, stunned.
“Norris … ” she whispered, bewildered.
Watching it all, Tracy’s lips curved into a sharp, wicked smile. “Erin, do you even know what’s happened to Norris?”
Erin blinked in confusion, desperate to underst
and.
Tracy smirked. “He … ”

Before she could finish, a shrill cry split the air. “Erin! Erin! Erin!”

Everyone turned. A ragged, foul–smelling woman in ripped, filthy clothes was sprinting straight toward them.
The bodyguards quickly stepped in front of Tracy, but the woman ignored them. She rushed past and pulled Erin in a suffocating hug.
“Give him back! Give my husband back to me! Take anything you want, but give him back!”
Erin was caught off guard. The woman clung to her, and the stench was so overpowering that it nearly knocked her out.
Gagging, she thrashed with both hands and feet, desperate to shove the stranger away. “Who are you? I don’t even know you! Let me go–Norris, help me!”
Her voice cracked into a sob as she lifted her eyes toward Norris.
But Norris didn’t seem like himself. He seemed completely unhinged, slapping at his arms as if trying to scrub something filthy off his skin.
When he saw Erin crawling toward him, begging for help, his face twisted in horror.
“Stay back!” he shouted, stumbling backward before bolting in a panic.
Erin froze, stunned. Just a few days apart, and Norris had turned into a different person.
But there was no time to think. She had to get this deranged woman off her.
“I told you–I don’t know you! Get away from me!”
Her temper snapped. Erin shoved hard, too hard.
The woman toppled backward, her head smacking against the pavement with a sickening crack, and she passed out on the spot.
A pool of bright red blood spread beneath her skull. Erin’s face went pale.
“I didn’t mean it–I don’t even know her–I just gave her a little push!” she stammered, looking wildly at the growing crowd.
It was rush hour, and people had already gathered at the company entrance.
Erin panicked. Scrambling to her feet, she fled, leaving the chaos behind.
