Chapter 234 Jeo’s Wedding
Mia’s POV
“Mia,” Thomas’s voice snapped me out of my daze.
I blinked, realizing I’d been staring out the car window for who knows how long, completely lost in thought. The city scenery blurred past us as we made our way to Jeo and Leila’s wedding.
“Sorry,” I said, turning to face him with what I hoped was an apologetic smile. “Just thinking.”
Thomas squeezed my hand gently, his thumb tracing small circles on my knuckles. He didn’t ask what I was thinking about, though I could see the question in his warm brown eyes. He never pushed, and it made me feel even more guilty. 1
Because I’d been thinking about Maxwell again.
And by extension, about Kyle.
The resemblance between them was driving me absolutely insane. Every time I met with Jackson Maxwell for the estate project, I found myself studying his face, looking for differences.
“Mama, are we there yet?” Alexander’s voice piped up from the backseat, cutting through my spiraling thoughts.
‘Almost, sweetheart,” I replied, grateful for the interruption. I turned in my seat to look at my boys, both dressed in their little navy suits that made them look impossibly grown–up and adorable at the same time.
“I still don’t understand why people get married,” Ethan said seriously, adjusting his tiny tie with the same precision he brought to everything else. “If they already love each other, why do they need a party?”
Thomas chuckled. “Well, it’s like… making a promise in front of everyone you care about. Saying ‘this person is my family now, forever.!!!
“But we’re already a family,” Alexander pointed out with four–year–old logic. “Me and Ethan and Mama and you and Gas. We don’t need a party.”
My heart clenched at his casual inclusion of Thomas in our family unit.
I caught Thomas’s eye in the rearview frror and saw the same warmth there that I felt. He’d just… earned it, day by day, story by story, scraped knee by scraped knee.
“Maybe someday we will have a party,” Thomas said lightly.
Was I ready? Could I even think about marriage when I couldn’t stop thinking about Maxwell is so fucking like the fucking Kyle?
God, I was such a mess.
“Look, boys!” I said with forced brightness, pointing out the window. “We’re here!”
The venue was absolutely perfect. They chose a historic mansion in the Hudson Valley with manicured gardens.

and ivy–covered walls. It screamed Jeo and tella in the best possible way: artistic, unconventional, but undeniably romantic.
Cars were already filling the circular driveway, and I could see guests making their way toward the gardens where the ceremony would take place. Women in flowing dresses and men in summer suits, everyone looking festive and happy.
“Remember what we talked about,” I said to the twins as Thomas helped them out of the car. “Inside voices, no running during the ceremony, and absolutely no experiments with the flowers.”
“But what if they need to be improved?” Alexander asked Innocently.
“They don’t,” I said firmly.
Thomas straightened Alexander’s tie and smoothed down Ethan’s hair. “You two look very handsome,” he said. “Ready to be the best–behaved wedding guests ever?”
They nodded solemnly, though I had about zero faith in their ability to maintain that level of decorum for more than five minutes.
We made our way through the gardens, following the sound of gentle music and murmured conversations. The ceremony space was breathtaking–white chairs arranged in perfect rows facing a flower–covered arch, with the Hudson River providing a stunning backdrop.
I spotted Nate immediately, looking dapper in a charcoal gray suit as he chatted with other guests near the front. He’d played cupid for Jeo and Lella three years ago, and now he was serving as Jeo’s best man.
“Mia! Thomas!” Scarlett’s voice carried across the garden before I saw her weaving through the crowd toward us, resplendent in a emerald green dress that probably cost more than most people’s monthly rent.
She reached us in a cloud of expensive perfume and air kisses, crouching down to hug the twins without getting
a wrinkle in her dress–a skill that could only be acquired through years of practice.
“Don’t you two look like perfect little gentlemen,” she cooed. “Are you excited for your first wedding?”
“We get cake, right?” Alexander asked, cutting straight to what mattered.
“Lots of cake,” Scarlett promised with a wink. “And probably some dancing too.”
The twins exchanged excited glances. Dancing meant chaos, and chaos was their specialty.
“How’s the happy couple?” Thomas asked as we found our seats about halfway down the aisle.
“Jeo’s been pacing in the bridal suite for the past hour,” Scarlett reported with glee. “Apparently he changed his tie three times and asked Nate at least six times if his speech was too long. It’s adorable.”
“And Leila?”
“Cool as a cucumber. She spent the morning doing yoga on the terrace and reading a medical journal.” Scarlett shook her head in admiration. “That woman has nerves of steel.”
Music began to swell–not the traditional wedding march, but something jazzy and modern that was pure Jeo.

The conversations around us quieted as everyone turned toward the aisle.

Jeo appeared first, walking with his parents. He looked nervous but radiant, his usually unruly hair styled for once, wearing a navy suit that fit him perfectly. When he reached the arch, he turned to face the aisle, and 1 could see his hands shaking slightly.
