Chapter 167
:
I went to my office to take my jacket and car keys, and I also took the recorder along. I informed my assistant. of who I was going to see and where I would be, in case of an emergency. Or in case Medea pulled any dumb shit. You couldn’t let your guard down with that woman.
On my way to the bar, my thoughts wandered.
Somehow, she knew I was a werewolf. No, she knew my entire family was werewolves. How? How on God’s green earth did she know? We were in the States and she was in Italy, so I couldn’t even guess how she knew.
And she wants what I had? She wanted to be a werewolf? It wasn’t impossible, but it was a 50/50 percent chance and it was also dangerous. Plus, it was forbidden.
There was a very valid reason why it was forbidden. Didn’t she know all this?
By the time I got to the bar, I had a piercing headache. Thinking wouldn’t do me any good.
When I got to the entrance, the bouncer stopped me. “Name.”
“Kade Varkas.”
He let me enter, saying, “Room ten.”
I entered the bar, and my nose wrinkled in disgust. Even at this time of the day, there were people in the bar, music was playing, and they were people drinking.
The smell of this place was overwhelming; the smell of perfume, alcohol, sweat, and sex. It was heavy in the air like a cloud and made me want to gag.
This is why I never come to places like this.
I moved to room ten, knocking on the door loudly, eager to enter the room and get away from this offensive
smell.
I heard her slow footstep from the other, and her heartbeat.
She sure was taking her time opening the door. When she finally did, her face came into view, and she had a disgusting smile on her face.
“Kade,” she purred, opening the door wider, and that was when I finally saw what she was wearing; just a robe.
“Come in.”
Disgust turned my mouth sour. Staying in this hall and breathing in the foul smell of the bar will be better than being in that room with her.
God, just the sight of her alone was an assault on my eyes.
I raised my eyes to hers, my jaw clenched as I spat, “You’re fucking disgusting, Medea. In all my years, I’ve never met someone as shameless and disgusting as you.”

Her smile faltered but she painted it back on. “Don’t you want to know where the weapons are, Kade? So why don’t you save your breath and just come in?”
I entered the room without a word, making sure I didn’t brush against her–I didn’t want her foul smell on me. But as soon as I entered the room, a powerful smell hit me and I staggered back. The smell hit me so hard that my headache intensified.
I turned to Medea to see her resting against the closed door, a glint in her eyes.
“What is this smell?” I asked in a breath.
The smell burned my nose and made my throat itch. And the more I inhaled it, the more I felt… weird.
“Curious, aren’t you?” Medea asked as she walked away from the door and moved to the table, pouring herself a drink and sitting down with her legs crossed, fixing her eyes on me. “But before I get to what that scent is, do you want to know how I know what you are?”
That got my interest immediately. Of course I wanted to. Werewolves try as much as possible to keep their identities a secret, because once upon a long time ago, we were haunted by humans.
So now we live as quietly as possible and only a few humans know what we were, and they only knew because we needed tethers.
“I see I’ve got your interest,” Medea said, smiling. “Why won’t you take a seat?”
I took the chair beside her and dragged it far from her before I dropped down on it.
“Talk,” I said, my voice hoarse. I rubbed my throat when it felt so raw.
“You see, I know a lot of people,” she began, her eyes fixed on mine. “I have lots of connections, networks, and friends. Not only in Italy, but in the States as well. And let’s say your father has wronged a lot of people. The people who sold your family out are one of your kind.”
1 gripped the armrest of the chair, my teeth bared. “You’re lying.”
“Am I? Then tell me how I know that your kind work in your father’s company. They’re not much, but they’re there. This person who sold you out worked in your father’s company, but was fired without a valid reason. So he hates your father’s gut. I came to the States last year for a small vacation, and I met him at a bar. People spill anything when drunk. Honestly? I would say he didn’t mean to, but the poor man was frustrated, so when he got drunk, he spilled everything.”
She swirled the liquid in her glass, the ice clinking as her smile sharpened. “Werewolves. Creatures of the moon. Wolf and man in one body. I didn’t believe him when he told me, but then I dug in deeper. I used money, connection, and my body, and that was when I really believed that the Varkas family wasn’t humans.”
My fists tightened on the armrests, and the more I listened to her, the more I wanted to seal her mouth shut.
“And that was when I started pushing the thoughts of marriage into my dear husband’s head,” she continued. “I told him your family wasn’t ordinary, that you were powerful, and he fell for it. I didn’t care who it was that Belladonna got married to, I just needed someone from your family to be within my net.”
