It felt like my chest was ripped open and acid was being poured inside. It was hard to breathe, hard to think, but my brain still forced my body to move. Because I had to move.

That pain in Rosette’s voice sounded like finality. I had called her again after she dropped the call but her phone was off. That nearly made me go crazy.

What the fuck was happening? What did Silas say to her? What the hell did he fucking do?

I got to the garage, but as I moved to the car, the keys were snatched from my grip.

You can’t drive in this state,Kross said, getting into the driver’s seat.

Don’t just fucking stand there!Kade growled when I just stared at Kross. Fucking get in.”

I snapped out of it and entered the passenger’s seat while Kade got into the back. I looked away at Kross, before I looked at Kade.

Kross, who never lost control, was at the very edge, his claws slowly crawling out as he drove like a madman out of the house. Kade, calm and soft, had veins popping on his neck, his eyes glowing.

Whatever foolish thoughts you’re having, knock it out,” Kross said without taking his eyes off the road, his voice a deep growl.

You care about her,I said, looking back at Kade. Both of you.”

You think you’re the only one who cares about her?Kade growled.

We agreed to let her go, Axel,” Kross said, sounding calm, but that edge was still in his voice. Don’t make this complicated.

You know, Axel,Kade muttered, and I looked over at him to see something that almost looked likehate in his eyes. You’re not the only-

Kade,” Kross snapped. Now is not the time.”

Kade bit his lips, looking out of the window, but my eyes never left him. My heart was a mess in my chest.

I asked,” I whispered, still looking at him. I fucking asked, Kade! And you said you were okay with it. Was

that a lie?

Yes,” he answered without taking his gaze off the window. You asked that day if I loved her, but you didn’t want to hear my answer because you already knew.”

I looked away from him and looked at Kross. And you? You love her, too?

Instead of answering, he asked his own question. And will my answer change anything?

No,I answered without hesitation, and he nodded. I still won’t let go of her. I still won’t share her. If I have to fight for her, I will, brother.

His jaw was tightly clenched. It won’t come to that. Our answer still remains the same; she’s all yours.

And what is that going to cost me? Will it cost me my brotherslove?

He glanced over at me before he looked back at the road. No. You will always have it. It’s not going to change.”

I looked over at Kade. Kade?

He said nothing, didn’t even look at me.

I looked back at the road, but I wasn’t seeing anything.

I was going crazy. Fucking crazy.

I was about to lose my woman, and I just realized my brothers were in love with her. But I pushed the latter to the back of my mind and slammed a wall to keep it there. What was important now was Rosette. She wasn’t going to leave me. I didn’t give a fuck what Silas must have told her but she wasn’t going anywhere.

She had no idea what she’s gotten herself into when she said those three words to me. She had no idea when she became my tether. She was bonding herself to me, and there was no way in hell I was letting her go.

Whatever it costswhatever it tookI was holding onto her.

In no time, we were already at the mansion, we all jumped out of the carKross didn’t even bother to turn off the carand ran into the house.

Rosette!I shouted as I entered, but my voice echoed back to me.

We’ll split up and search the whole mansion,Kross commanded, already moving.

The first place I ran to was Silasstudy, and as soon as I entered, her scent hit me like an avalanche. It was still heavy, so that meant it had been a while since she left. And there was no sign of Silas either. His cigar was still burning on the ashtray, and there was still whiskey in his glass.

They weregone.

I wasn’t ready to accept that, so I left the study and went up. I tore through the hallways, kicking doors open, searching every room, every step heavier than the last. The sound of my heartbeat thundered in my ears, defeating, my chest rising and falling so fast it felt like my lungs were collapsing.

All the rooms were empty, sheets pulled tight. Not a single soul in the whole mansion.

Rosette!I roared, the sound breaking in my throat, raw with panic.

Behind me, footsteps pounded, and I turned to see Kade. He didn’t say anything, but the look in his eyes told me everything.

No, no,I rasped, shaking my head. She’s here! She has to be!

I shove past him, my body moving on autopilot, searching, tearing through every room like a man possessed

-because I was.

Axel,Kross’s voice echoed down the hallway, sharp, commanding. I followed it, my legs carrying me faster than my mind could keep up.

I found him in the foyer, standing in the open doorway, his fists clenched so tight, his knuckles had split open, his claws piercing through his own skin, blood dripping down the floor. He looked like he wanted to destroy somethingno, someone.

What?I demanded, my voice breaking. Where’s she?

He didn’t answer me, his gaze just shifted downward, jaw clenched. I followed his eyes and my stomach dropped.

Lying on the floor, by his feet, cracked and abandoned, was Rosette’s phone.

She’s gone,” Kross finally said, his voice low, hoarse.

No.I shook my head, stumbling forward and picking up the phone. No, she wouldn’t leave me. She wouldn’t.”

Kade finally spoke, his voice a low whisper, but it cut through me like a blade. Not willingly.”

Something inside me snappedthe last shred of control I had left. My growl shook the walls, rattling through my bones and I was still in my human form.

But not for long.

The shift tore through me before I could even think, the beast forcing its way to the surface, and I let it out.
