Every emotion drained from his face by listening to what she had been wanting him to do to give him her acceptance.
“You will neither come closer to me nor will touch me again,” he heard her repeating her words again. Those words, which successfully made his venomous past to reflect in front of his eyes.
‘He is far better than you….’
‘You are nothing but a shame. No one will accept someone like you in any way and for any reason.’
‘Learn something from him. You are a disappointment, Theron. Just a disappointment….’
His palms clenched the headboard as those voices of his past started echoing in his head. His grip turned so hard around that headboard that it felt like he was about to break it at any second, but even breaking it wouldn't satiate the havoc igniting inside him.
He had never received anything but denial.
He had never felt anything but comparison.
He had never been more than just a disappointment for every f*cking person in his life, and she also became a part of that crowd which had never accepted him.
Never.
And in the end, everyone had always abandoned him…. just like she was abandoning him right now.
“So that's what you want?” he finally opened his mouth. Eizlina gazed at him in complete silence, and at that moment, she thought he was going to burst out at her in anger, but he proved her completely wrong.
“Fine. You will get it,” his acceptance shocked Eizlina. She had never expected him to accept her condition so easily. She thought he would do everything to make her regret her condition, but he did the total opposite of her expectations.
He accepted her condition with no argument or anger.
Why?
Eizlina saw his pale grey eyes peering down at her. Yes, he was angry and it was completely evident in that rage burning in his gaze, but this time it was just not only anger which could be seen in his eyes, because this time, Eizlina saw something extremely familiar in his eyes.
Something she had seen in her own eyes in her reflection in the mirror many times in her life.
That feeling of not being good enough to get accepted by the world around you, not even by those people, whom you loved and cared about.
That venomous feeling of being a disappointment for your closed ones.
Her heart froze. Was she thinking too much? Or was it really real? Had he suffered the same thing which she had endured all her life of not being important for anyone?
But how? When the world around them moved at his one signal?
Eizlina witnessed him getting up from her finally. And somehow, she immediately started feeling exposed, cold and uncovered, which she was not feeling until his body was shielding her naked skin. But the second he got away from her, she started feeling bare not just only from outside but internally too.
As he got up from her, Eizlina hurriedly got up and sat on the bed. She grabbed the duvet from the ground and wrapped it around herself to cover her naked body.
In complete silence, he just peered at her.
“Remember those last 24 hours, Eizlina?” he uttered, making Eizlina look in his direction. Something shivered inside her when she noticed that cold and distant look on his face, which she had never seen on his face before for her.
His eyes had always looked at her with acceptance. Be it in his anger, lust or anything else….he had never looked at her like this. Like she wasn't worth his embrace. Like she didn't deserve to be a part of his world.
And it did hurt her when it shouldn't.
“I am accepting my defeat before the end of those 24 hours,” his words appalled her.
He was accepting his defeat in front of her, even without fighting for his win? What had suddenly changed in him so much? He had never listened to her then why was he listening to her this time and so easily?
“But…..this victory of yours will make you suffer more than it's going to make me suffer my loss,” and those words were his last words before he turned around and walked out of her room, without even sparing her a single glance.
Her dark brown eyes continued to gaze down at his disappearing figure. And Eizlina didn't even notice when her eyes misted with tears and started falling from her eyes by seeing him completely fading from her vision.
Prisila shook her head.
“I am fine,” her words calmed Eizlina a bit.
At least, someone was fine here.
In the afternoon, Eizlina was done eating her lunch, so she decided to take the used dishes and utensils back to the kitchen. Grabbing everything, she stepped out of her room.
“Good afternoon, Mrs. Elzaek. Why did you bother? You could have called us,” one of the house staff immediately took the used dishes from Eizlina as soon as she saw her entering the kitchen with them.
“It’s alright,” she said to the house help with a small smile, but Eizlina noticed that all the house staff, who were present inside the kitchen, were all looking extremely worried and tense.
Did something happen?
She didn't ask them, so she decided to find Prisila and ask her regarding this. And since this morning, she hadn't seen Prisila either. Another house staff brought lunch to her room this afternoon.
Where was Prisila?
After leaving the kitchen, Eizlina started looking for Prisila. But couldn't find her, so she entered the main hall of the manor, but there her eyes widened in horror by witnessing what was happening there.
“So you helped that girl in running away? You have become more loyal to her than us, you b*tch…” Winona roared at Prisila and then slapped her so hard that she fell on the floor. Her head got slammed against the edge of the center table and started bleeding.
Winona grabbed a fist of Prisila's hair, who was sobbing and trembling in terror now.
“You will pay for your loyalty towards her….you beggar. You….” Winona attempted to slap Prisila again, but this time she couldn't as she felt someone holding her hand in the middle.
Winona turned her head around and found Eizlina's brown eyes glowering at her.
“That's enough, Winona Elzaek….” Eizlina seared out at Winona, clutching her hand firmly.
