“That's enough, Winona Elzaek,” Eizlina's loud voice resonated against the wall of that huge hall.
She clutched Winona's hand firmly to stop her from hurting Prisila further. This was injustice. This was not acceptable to her in any way, so she did what she had to do.
Winona gritted her teeth and aggressively snatched her wrist from Eizlina's hold.
Eizlina walked towards Prisila and helped her in getting up on her feet. Her heart clenched by seeing Prisila's temple bleeding, and she knew Prisila had to face this pain because she chose to help her.
Every person in this place suffered who chose to stand by the right.
“Don't get in between me and my servants here,” Winona's tone came out as a straight and clear warning, which got grasped by Eizlina's head immediately, but she refused to bow in front of her warning.
She looked at Winona and found her wicked gaze glaring at her. Eizlina's jaw clenched.
“Even if she works for you here, that doesn't give you the right to raise your hand at her,” Eizlina shielded Prisila, not just only because she was against this cruelty of his mother but also because she knew how wrong and irrational it was.
How could she hit another person just because they worked for her? This was utterly disgusting and unacceptable.
Winona's gaze hardened, seeing her standing in between her and that maid, Prisila. No one had ever dared to go against her orders in this place. Her words had always been the last and final words in this place for everyone and everything.
She took a threatening step closer to them.
“I can do whatever I want to do with them because I pay them to listen to me and my orders, and if….” Eizlina saw Winona trailing her eyes towards Prisila, who had been still holding her head down, both in fear and worry. Tears were silently streaming down from her eyes.
“She has forgotten her loyalty towards me and….” Winona snapped her eyes back at Eizlina.
“Has chosen to betray me then she is not needed here anymore,” her words brimmed a new amount of tears in Prisila's eyes because she was aware of where this had been heading to.
“So….” Winona's gaze darted in Prisila's direction again.
“You are fired. Get back to those streets where you and your mother used to beg, and start begging there again,” Winona spat at her. Her choice of words shocked Eizlina. How heartless could someone be? How could a human talk about another human like this?
Clenching her fists tightly, Prisila kept her mouth sealed, even though every part inside her body was writhing to shout back at that evil woman for disrespecting her ill mother, who also used to work here. But after her mother fell ill, Prisila took her mother's place here and started serving this manor's people, who were everything but kind.
The people of this manor might be humans, but they knew nothing about humanity.
Taking her eyes back at Eizlina's shocked eyes, Winona sent her a devious look of victory.
“And you, Eizlina Witner……do not dare to even think that if my son has stood by you for once then you will be able to make him go against his mother because….” Winona's cunning gaze bored deeper into Eizlina's brown ones.
“My son doesn't even breathe without his mother's approval,”
Eizlina dug her nails against her palms, hearing those words of Winona's, which made her clearly aware of how much his mother had been controlling him. Somehow he was like that because his mother had always wanted him to be like this.
How could a mother be so selfish and toxic that she had manipulated her son to be a cruel animal?
His mother was practically using him.
“And you ….” Winona looked at Prisila again.
“Get your things and get out of my place right now,” she spat at Prisila.
Eizlina could clearly see those dark red fingerprints on Prisila's cheek and that sound on her temple, which made her aware of how hard Winona had slapped her. It fueled Eizlina with pure rage, and somehow pain too. Prisila didn't deserve this, especially not for being so humble and respectfully towards others.
No one had the right to take advantage of her vulnerability or polite nature.
Prisila wiped her eyes, but Eizlina noticed those tears continuously forming in her eyes, and she knew why. Nothing hurt more than this feeling of helplessness, especially if it included the well-being of your loved ones. She knew about this pain because she herself was dealing with it.
Eizlina noticed Prisila tearing up more as she attempted to wash her tears away. It clenched her heart, so she gently pulled Prisila in a comforting hug.
The helpless girl broke down into tears against Eizlina's shoulder.
“I…I don't know what I will do after this. My mother is ill, and I have spent my last month's entire salary on her treatment and on our basic necessities. But this month….I haven't even received my salary yet and I don't think Ms. Elzaek would even give it to me anymore,” Eizlina heard Prisila revealing her pain.
She knew every person needed someone to reveal their pain, and at that moment, she had become that person for Prisila.
“I don't know what to do anymore. My mother needs monthly checkups, so I don't know how I will manage all of this,” Prisila shattered down into a new fit of tears. She and her mother lived all alone in this city.
Prisila needed to take care of her mother and for that, she also gave up on her studies to work full time here, so that she could look after her. But now after she lost her job, she didn't even know what to do further.
“I don't know how to tell my mother regarding all of this,” her words filled Eizlina with worry and concern. Her eyes moistened too. She understood everything that had been bothering Prisila so badly.
Pulling back from their hug, Eizlina held Prisila's hand.
“You will get back your work,” her words stunned Prisila, but Eizlina knew what she needed to do to turn all of this alright.
She needed to go to him, and this time on her own and with her willingness.
