Chapter 827 When Vomiting Meets Conspiracy
“She didn’t approach Marie on purpose?”

Abraham replied, “If it had been intentional, do you really think he would’ve faked his own death and disappeared from Falvaria?”
Derrick went silent. Good point. He still couldn’t make sense of Dan’s bizarre stunt.
Normally, people from the Morris family were all about profit; that was their way.
If Dan had truly been driven by gain, then back when he’d gotten close to Marie, he would’ve effectively secured ties with the entire Dawson family–maybe even the Luke family.
But instead, he’d faked his death and vanished.
That said a lot. It meant that while his trip to Falvaria might have been for a purpose, his relationship with Marie had been an accident; he hadn’t even realized who she really was.
“So what?” Derrick asked. “Now he’s planning to use the Moses family’s power to keep the Ashen Pact alive?”
Abraham snorted. “The only one in the Ashen Pact who ever cared about love was Dale. As for the rest–heh…”
That short, cold laugh was pure mockery.
And Abraham wasn’t wrong. Out of all the generations of the Ashen Pact, Dale had been the only one with any sense of devotion. The rest of the leadership had always been driven by one thing–profit.
Even though Dan had publicly handed over his position as leader to Manny not long ago, this sudden connection with the Moses family was… suspicious, to say the least.
Derrick gave a low chuckle. “Guess Marie didn’t have the best taste, huh? What the heck did she ever see in him?”
“Just stay alert,” Abraham said flatly.
He was about to hang up when Derrick stopped him. “Wait!”
“What? You scared now?”
“Scared?” Derrick scoffed. “Of what?”
Scared of Dan? Of the Ashen Pact? He let out a sharp laugh. “The Ashen Pact and Dan? You think

“Don’t underestimate them,” Abraham warned. “The Ashen Pact’s been around a long time.”
Derrick raised a brow. “When did you start getting so cautious? That’s not like you.”
The old Abraham wouldn’t have said something like that. Back then, it didn’t matter who stood in his way–he’d crush them without hesitation. Now he was saying things like don’t underestimate the enemy?
Words like that had never come out of Abraham’s mouth before.
So what changed? Derrick wondered. Did he grow a weakness?
Because once a man had a weakness…
But then again, hadn’t Stella always been his weakness? Or maybe now he had more than one— because Stella was pregnant with triplets.
Maybe fatherhood had made him more careful.
Abraham said, “The situation in Redwood is unstable. Just be cautious–it won’t hurt you.”
Derrick didn’t bother arguing. “Yeah, I know.”
Abraham gave a short “Mm” and was about to end the call when Derrick interrupted again. “I’m not done yet.”
“What now?”
“Marie’s been sick these past few days. Can’t eat, can’t drink–throws up everything. I took her to see a doctor, and she ran off!”
Abraham went silent.
“Seriously,” Derrick said, exasperated. “Is a gastroscopy really that bad? Did she have to run?”
“Gastroscopy?” Abraham repeated, frowning.
“Yeah,” Derrick said. “She’s been vomiting so badly; the doctor needed to find out what’s wrong. But of course, she bolted before the test even started.”
He sighed. “Last time might’ve been an accident, but that was because of Sebastian. I told him to find a psychiatrist, and he brought an actual mental patient instead! After that mess, Marie got scared of doctors altogether. But I went with her today–how bad could it be?”
“It was the gastroenterology department, not psychiatry. So why’d she have to run?” Derrick

He’d been genuinely worried. The way she kept throwing up, he feared she might really be sick -something serious, even. But instead…
