With no water bottle left in her hand, Marie lunged at Dan, clawing and hitting him with everything she had.

“You piece of trash! You are the one who only thinks with what’s below your belt–I’m ending you today!”
Everyone watching felt their scalps prickle. They wanted to step in, but the woman’s relationship with their boss was… complicated. The scene was violent, yes–but beneath it lurked something else, a charged, almost twisted lover’s quarrel. Still, her temper was volcanic, the kind no ordinary man could withstand.
Marie was completely unhinged. She kicked at Dan over and over like she really meant to ruin him.
Dan’s expression darkened. “You vicious woman; have you completely lost your mind?”
“Yes! I’ve lost my damn mind!” Marie screamed. “What kind of rotten karma did I rack up in my last life to end up pregnant with your scumbag child?”
The more she spoke, the angrier she got; her rage only burned hotter, and she kept swinging at Dan like a storm.
Dan, realizing she was attacking him because she was pregnant, nearly lost his own mind.
“God! That’s not even my kid! You’ve got the wrong man!”
He should’ve just kept his mouth shut. The second those words left him, Marie’s fury erupted again–she took it as him denying it.
Already fuming, she went at him even harder.
Dan felt like crying. “The kid’s really not mine!”
“You still dare to deny it?” Marie shouted. “I’ll kill you today, you son of a…”
Dan was completely speechless. Unbelievable. There’s no way to reason with her at all.
Marie was past the point of reason; especially after he’d said the child wasn’t his. To her, that was the same as flat–out denying her.
The men around them wanted to step in, but Dan forbade it. Still–how could they just stand there while their boss got beat to hell?
They all knew it wasn’t right, but honestly… watching him now, he looked more like a beaten

Pain throbbed behind his eyes. Now that he knew she was pregnant, he couldn’t bring himself to fight back–if he hurt her or the baby, the guilt would eat him alive.
He had never felt this helpless in his life.
When Derrick arrived, the sight that greeted him was chaos–Marie had clawed Dan’s face until it was covered in scratches.
His face, neck—everywhere bore her nail marks, and his shirt was shredded.
Dan had both hands raised like a hostage, not daring to touch her, looking terrified of being accused of something worse. One glance, and Derrick knew–Marie must’ve found out.
Abraham probably called her, told her to see a doctor.
And Dan had the bad luck of walking right into her line of fire.
Derrick got out of the car, striding forward, and wrapped his arms around Marie. “Stop, that’s enough.”
Seeing Derrick only made Dan’s face twist darker.
He glared at him. “You–are you even a man? You still haven’t figured this out?”
He was furious. Absolutely furious.
Ever since that night, he’d been the scapegoat for everything–and not just anyone’s scapegoat, but Derrick’s!
Marie was still livid, and hearing Dan drag Derrick into it made her see red all over again. Even in Derrick’s arms, she kicked Dan straight in the gut.
“How dare you drag Derrick into this, you scumbag!”
Derrick went silent. Dan went silent.
His words made Dan’s blood boil even more, while Derrick could only look grim and tired.
Dan’s chest heaved. “Derrick, you tell her! Did I or did I not drag you into this?”
No one could even tell what the truth was anymore. Derrick opened his mouth to speak, but
