To Love a Shadow, To Be the Sun novel Chapter 121

Just then, a few more cars appeared in the distance.

All three of them looked over, and Brian's face instantly turned to stone.

They were cars from the old Prescott estate.

Felice was the first to step out, but the second person climbing out from the back seat was—

"Grandpa!"

Elara darted forward in surprise.

The medication was working; Gage didn't need anyone's help to walk on his own.

He patted Elara's hand, his voice warm but anxious. "I couldn't reach you for days. I was worried sick—was even planning to file a missing person's report at the police station this afternoon. Then—"

His gaze shifted to John Prescott, who stood just behind Felice.

"John said he knew where you were and would bring you home, but I couldn't rest easy. So I came along with Felice to find you myself."

Gage spoke gently, but the truth was more complicated.

He'd actually seen the online posts searching for Mrs. Vincent. When he showed up at the police station, John Prescott intercepted him, promising to bring Elara back. But Gage didn't trust the Vincents anymore and insisted on going with them himself. If they refused, he threatened to continue with the police report.

The Vincents were already treading on thin ice in the public eye, so they reluctantly agreed.

"I'm fine, Grandpa," Elara reassured him.

Felice couldn't help but notice how distant the girl had become—she didn't even greet her anymore.

"If you're alright, let's get in the car. I'll drive you both back to the city," Felice said.

"Grandma, Elara and I haven't finished our conversation," Brian interjected.

Gage's patience snapped. "You've been married four years—four years she's had to watch you cheat, and she's done nothing to wrong you or the Vincent family. If you're not divorcing, how long do you expect her to wait around for you?"

"Mr. Prescott, it's not what you think," Brian tried to protest.

Gage just snorted.

"Whose name was on the DNR order? While your wife was fighting for her life in the ICU, you had the time to take your mistress out to parties! Such a huge emergency, and you didn't even notify me—you left her alone, struggling at death's door. Brian, did you just assume that since she's orphaned, no one would even bother with her body if she died?"

"If you and your sister want to carry on with your filth, leave her out of it. If the Vincent family wants to cut off my medication, go ahead—I'm not afraid of dying. But you need to let her go!"

She paused, but didn't look back, helping her grandfather into the Prescott car.

In Brian's eyes, a storm was brewing, dark enough to destroy everything.

Felice turned to her grandson. "If you don't cut your losses now, you'll only bring chaos down on yourself. If you keep acting like some lovesick teenager, how will you save the Vincent family's reputation—or your own?"

Her words left no room for doubt: she was telling him to make up his mind.

"Grandma, I know what to do."

Elara's silent departure cut deeper than the public humiliation he'd suffered at her hands the night of the banquet.

Felice didn't push further. She cast a frosty glance at Lina, who stood awkwardly beside Brian.

"You've already disappointed me enough. Don't forget what you promised me—or I'll handle it myself."

The words were both a threat and a warning.

After dropping Elara and Gage off in the city center, Felice waited until Gage was out of earshot before turning to Elara.

"Brian may have made countless mistakes, but if you go through with this, you'll destroy everything the Vincent family has built—and all his years of hard work. Was it my poor judgment, or have you changed?"
